CLANCY WOODS RESIGNS--GOOD OR BAD for SNR?

From this site:
Clancy Woods resigns as President of Sporting News Radio's parent
Mission Media distributes radio programming and other content using the Sporting News Radio brand, and it was formed last year by veteran radio executive Clancy Woods. He moved the operation to Houston, to "1560 The Game" KGOW, and recruited personalities Steve Czaban and Peter Gammons. Now Woods says he'll now "devote my time to a number of other business interests and leave the next phase of growth for Mission Media in the capable hands of our senior management team." Woods will continue to be an advisor, as Mission Media Chairman David Gow, the owner of KGOW, takes over the President's role.

Is this good or bad for the nations #3 Sports network?

Looks like their actions today (12/21) could be very interesting.

The new evening program "Gamecast," by Gow's own press release, can be utilized as a standalone program for part-time affiliates or those that have a significant helping of PBP. IMO, that could be a good straegdy in trying to get small-market news/talk stations that have said PBP rights and aren't enthused with having either ESPN or FSR as options.

Gow also has high hopes for Travis Rodgers, Jim Rome's former producer (and best-of host), who is being promoted from KGOW to the network's 4p-7p EST shift. Also, Craig Larson has been promoted from executive producer for SNR to program director.

Time will tell if Gow is on to something... but considering SNR's past troubles, what have they got to lose?

Nathan: When did "T-Rodge" leave "The Jungle"? Don't tell me he's another CC budget cut victim...

IIRC, Rodgers left "The Jim Rome Show" back in June 2009. Very little was said about it OTA, but it appears to have been a deeply bitter divorce between Rodgers and Rome. He's been a show host on KGOW for a while now, so this isn't directly promoting a show producer into a show host position.

(Bear in mind that WKNR/850 in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio has been notorious for promoting show producers to on-air hosting duties. And yes, the air product often approaches the nadir "PMS" often occupies.)

I was in Houston a few months ago and I caught Steve Cablenasian the multiple Smack-Off Champ of the Jungle say "We saved TRodge from SoCal" So TRodge was/is working at the Cablenasians Radio Station in Houston. I remember Rome saying The Cablenasian was no longer allowed to participate in the Smack-off since he had a show on a competing station. Maybe the fall-out is tied in with all that.

Promoting Larson to the job he was already doing is a GREAT move. To bring in someone from the outside would have upset the apple cart. Promoting producers has always been a controversial topic BUT who else is involved in every aspect of the process? Travis good move! Larson good move! Clancy being gone has many asking what he did anyway. Now you boys got to sell it!!!

These guys are gonna find a way to outlast FSR. I know they are up against it on affiliates and I imagine revenue but their shows are enjoyable and I think Peter Brown is one of the best in the biz.

I wonder if Peter is not full-time by choice? Seems like they could find a spot for him.

I thought the falling out between the two was due in part to a difference of opinion on the direction of the show. Maybe the quick rise of Kyle Brandt may have had something to do with it as well. It is something that has never been discussed.

Quick rise of Kyle Brandt? Did he improve his 40 time in getting Rome his coffee or did he show up earlier in the morning to wash his car and pick up his dry cleaning?

I remember John Feinstein was subbing for Rome and Feinstein made a remark about TRodge not liking him and always taking off when he hosted. Maybe that was the reason for the falling out..... :D

After parting ways with Rome, TRodge was doing online content - blogging & podcasting. He became a weekly guest on the Sean (Cablinasian) & John Show on 1560 The Game well over a year ago. This past fall Rodgers was brought to Houston to fill the 1-3 slot on 1560. With the new year came a shake up to the 1560 line-up as well as the SNR line-up. Travis Rodgers Now airs on SNR from 3-6 central time with Travis doing an extra 6-7 slot on 1560 here in Houston.

While I've liked the linking of 1560 KGOW & SNR, I know that much of the programming on SNR have reflected the regions of the hosts. Rodgers brings a truly national vibe to his show.

Who's writing Rome's script on the radio show now that Rodgers is gone?
