It is a shame WNNJ has a weak signal. They would do very well. WNNJ seems to focus a lot on the doo wop too. They sound great. Of course we all know why WMTR is doing very well.

Yes, 1170 and 1250. WMTR is great to listen to. I listen to it in the car once in a while on my way to work.
______________

Well then why didn't they show in their own county of Sussex where they have a very good signal?

Yes, because it is a very good station, perhaps the only station in the "real Oldies" genre to do well.

If what your inferring is that WMTR did well because CBS-FM went to Jack for the last couple of weeks in the book, you should know that in the NY book WMTR had a higher cume in the frst two months of the book than at the end. They also increased their NY cume by 40%.

In Chicago WJMK signed on with Jack at around the same time as CBS-FM, however although WJMK dipped in cume, so did "Real Oldies" WRLL. One would think they would have gone up if Jack was really a factor.

I didn't even know the Sussex book came out. Plus, the signal isn't too good ALL OVER the county. WNNJ AM's signal is weak, even here. I guess not many people listen to music on AM here in the area. If it was on FM, they would probably do well.

I think WMTR has been doing well, even before the CBS FM flip, but the CBS FM flip was probably a factor.

Hm, I am surprised that WRLL didn't do better after WJMK's flip.

Realistically, how many people are going to think of an AM station as a music choice? Especially one in the expanded band. Most listeners think of AM as being just talk or ethnic programming.

Yeah, that is true, plus less people listen to AM for music.

I am not too sure about that. I was up in Sussex several weeks ago and they came in fine. They also come in reasonaly well outside of Sussex during the day. Heck they had some numbers (small as they may have been) when they were running syndicated standards.

Lucky you, I just have lots of trouble getting 1360 AM on my radio.
______________

Lets put it this way. If hardly anybody can receive the signal - why bother with the expense of running the staton to begin with? If people can't hear it - advertisers won't get results - no?

The Clear Channel Oldies stations (even the 50kw ones) have been abysmal as far as ratings are concernedto begin with. What can one expect when The geniuses at Clear Channel programming have WRLL mixing Annette singing "Pineapple Princess" with Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night". Oy!

WRLL should be considered a '50s/early '60s Top 40 station. Their PD says that the programming is based on Chicago's Top 40 charts. "Pineapple Princess" and "Strangers" both made the Top 15 back in the '60s. I heard "Underwater" by the Frogmen on WRLL the other day. Most people reading this have never heard of that song, but it made #8 in Chicago in 1961. THAT'S what makes WRLL a great station. Not every station in every market can be a ratings giant. With dwindling audiences, radio may have to learn that a smaller piece of the pie is better than none at all.

Sounds like a creative mix and different too.
______________

Re: Classic Oldies goes way up in Morristown book!

The only oldies station that I remember hearing Underwater during the regular broadcast day was WPGR 1540 in Philadelphia and that was around 1982 when they may have still been WRCP.

Good going. I say, Play the Frogmen!
