Class A stations

I have a question to ask: how is it that a 'Class A' station on say, VHF
channel 9 operate with 3kw (3,000 watts) with at least 2 other channel 9
stations only about 100-120 miles from each other- in Clarksville, IN
(across the Ohio river from Louisville, KY) there is a Class A VHF channel
9 in operation (WVHF) with 3kw, however, in Cincinnati (only 110 miles up)
there is a full-power channel 9 (WCPO) and in Evansville, IN (about 120-130
miles down) there is another full-power channel 9 (WNIN) and since these
markets lie so close to each other, wouldn't they seem to cause some sort
of interference to the class-A channel 9 station? would stations in such
smaller markets closer to the bigger cities with class A or full-power
channels on the same channel cause interference to each other? or would the
Class A channel 9 station cause interference with the full-power channel 9
stations?

For starters, is the low-powered channel 9 operating on a directional antenna? There might be some special antenna configurations to avoid interference with Cincinnati and Evansville.

Is <a target="_blank" href=http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=CA988837.html>WVHF-CA</a> the station you're referring to?<P ID="signature">______________

> yep. that's it. the station used to be on channel 5 as a
simulcast of WJYL-CA Channel 45 which is the area's local
TBN station. eventually the station took on a life of its'
own as a local Church Channel-afilliated station. sometime
next month according to their website they are planning a
three-hour newscast that will run repeatedly at 7, 8, and
9 P.M. there is a demo video of the newscast (about 9 min.)
on the website. to see it you need a broadband connection
and the Windows Media Player.
