Was rummaging around the local thrift store and came across a very nice old Radio Shack Realistic 12-1466 Tabletop Stereo Radio.
Paid a whopping $4 for it and got it home, plugged it in and it works like a champ!
That thing has an excellent, and very sensitive AM tuner in it. I am pulling in AM stations from a good distance during the daytime hours that my car radio won't even touch. That is on the built in antenna too! It has an FM antenna connection on the back. This thing even looks good. I suspect it was sitting on someones table or shelf for years.
The only info I could find on it was an old newspaper ad from 1971 where it sold for $44.95 on sale and was regularly $59.95. Seems like a pretty substantial amount for the time. I didn't get the separate stereo speaker for it though. Here is the link to the ad. Its a PDF scan of the paper page:
