There is a rimshot FM in our market that has done classic country for many years. They seem to hover somewhere in the vicinity of a 2 share in the market. They play very little new stuff.
This is a Mom-and-Pop type of station that is owned by a small corporation of some kind.
My own station programs a fairly large amount of classic country, but because it is also a charting station, I play the new songs now as well. Because it is an attempt at "local Internet radio," as opposed to a computer playlist that runs for days on end, the mornings feature more of the new songs that people request. After 11 a.m., more classic country is included in the mix. I'm live Monday through Friday for around four hours a day.
For the record, I have been known to dumpster-dive, ask for, beg, and plead folks not to throw their country 45s and albums away. I have some, but not all, of some of the best country hits from around 1948 to the present.
