Classic Disney Cartoons

We all remember Disney once had a cable network called Toon Disney which aired the classic cartoons that Disney Channel once aired in the early 90s when some of us were kids. Some of those shows were Ducktales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, etc. Would be nice to have Toon Disney the way it used to be as I am sure many other people miss these classic cartoons of the days that we knew Disney Channel. Maybe someone will make a subchannel like the RTV is but called Classic Toons or something. Your thoughts on this....

I think Disney should create a website and name it toondisney.com that would stream old Disney cartoons just like the channel used to air before it became Disney XD. Since so many people have quicker internet now it would work out well.

Even Boomerang is heading in that direction. Flipping by their channel listings, I saw they were scheduling "2 Stupid Dogs" and "SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron" in early evening/prime time every weeknight. Not necessarily "classic" cartoons, especially when they're not that recognizable.

I guess the word "Classic" means different things to different people. I thought you were going to be referring to Donald Duck, Chip n Dale, Goofy, Mickey Mouse, etc. Those were "classic" Disney cartoons to me. I would be interested in such a channel but I doubt it if there's enough (ahem) money to be made on it. Maybe a way to stream them would work as wpxt suggested. Otherwise, I don't think it will happen.

When Boomerang started showing "Pokemon", it just went downhill from there. "Pokemon" belongs on CN. Leave the classics on Boomerang!

Unfortunately, you will never see Disney put their classic toons on their, or any channel. They're too busy with Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place and Drake and Josh and Sponge Bob and...oh, wait, that's Nick!

Ah, they're both the same to me anyway! :D

On that remark, it seems that more and more classic Nicktoons are being muscled off the Nicktoons TV channel -- yes, you'll still see Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy and Rocko, but you'll see more contemporary fare, such as "Glenn Martin, DDS", "The Penguins of Madagascar", and of course, "NFL Rush" (which, according to this Wikipedia article, is called "NFL RushZone: Guardians of the Core").

Thats another thing seems Disney and Nick aren't creating many new cartoons at all. But I will say Nick has more cartoons then Disney with Penguins of Madagascar and Spongebob. Not sure what other cartoons Nick also airs but I see their more creative and not so stupid to the ones you see on Cartoon Network. Only time I notice a good cartoon on is when Tom and Jerry come on which I noticed is 1pm. Which I am surprised they air still. One hour then back to trash.

I hear RTV is planning to add a block of cartoons on Saturday morning with some stuff from Filmation. The Archies, Fat Albert and He Man have been mentioned. I've also heard that they may be trying to launch a second RTV channel that will have some older kid shows.

I grew up watching those Disney cartoons on FOX 24/WTAT in Charleston,SC weekeday afternoons. Duck Tales, Gummy Bears, Tale Spin, Darkwing Duck and Chip n Dales Rescue Rangers. "80s Baby"

Me too Al, and I'm not that old! When I read "classic Disney cartoons", the last shows I thought of were Ducktales, Darkwing Duck and Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers!! Hardly "classics" - certainly no more "classic" than The Fresh Prince of Bel Air!

I find it interesting that Disney relentlessly markets those original characters to generations of people who may never have seen the actual cartoons that made them famous. If they made those original "classic" cartoon shorts available for purchase, I would buy them to show my little daughter. She'd love them.

Too bad they're no longer available.

In general these old cartoons have a hard time meeting today's broadcast standards for
Political Correctness....even with extensive editing. Most likely these networks simply
throw up their hands and produce new shows that meet those requirements.

Sure - though it's sad and frightening when you realize just how much of what we see is now censored in the interest of "P.C." However, that shouldn't keep Disney from at least offering those cartoons for sale on DVD. It would be nice to at least have that option.

I remember some very sad old footage, from 60 Minutes I believe, of an aging Joseph Barbera going over his storyboards with representatives of all of the PC groups who held sway with the networks. They raised 3 or 4 objections to every piece of the story line as he brought it up. ("Why does the little girl have to cry? Why can't the little boy cry too? etc. etc.)
I bet he was more ready for Happy Hour at the end of that day than anyone on the planet.
