In Arizona that is. Dance station KNRJ flipped to a classic hip hop format today as "92.7/99.3 The Beat". You hear that Salem?..... They are streaming on www.azthebeat.com.

Yeah I saw that. I know they have to play the hits, but I hope they can go deep cuts. Mantronix comes to mind with deep cuts.

There is no such thing as classic hip hop. It is all crap. Will this crap stand the test of time and be listened to 40 years later like 50s and 60s music? I don't think so.

Nostradamus, you are NOT!! We're already half way there!! Rap has been strong for over 20 years already. It's not a fad, deal with it...
We're Too Legit to Quit (Hey Heyyyyy!!)

It may be crap to you, but to me Classic hip hop made me aware of who I was. If the pro-black movement, the Stop the Violence movement, the native tongues, the 5% Nation of Islam, and even the earlier west coast gangsta stuff did not come around, not telling where my head would be these days. And yes it will be around for 40 years past my lifetime. Its already been on the scene for 30 years. Every generation has its theme song....mine will always be "Fight The Power" and "My Philosphy".

It never fails. Everytime a "minority" topic is posted on this board, at least one idiot come out of the woodwork.

HA!! I guess we'll show 'em who's boss today, Buc!! "Shut 'em down, shut 'em shut 'em down!!!

Bringing up the issue of race in this thread is so incredibly idiotic, I don't know where to begin. My statement has nothing to do with race. There is tons of great black music such as 50s doo wop, 60s
Motown, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Sly And The Family Stone....even 70s disco and a lot of other great black music. This is about rap and hip hop as a musical art form. Rap and hip hop have no art. There is no singing. The crap is recorded cheaply on music computers and not with live instruments. It is absolutely artless garbage.

In response to this, if you define yourself by rap and hip hop, then you have many more issues than can be discussed in this forum.

What I posted had nothing to do with race. When I said minority, I was talking about a format, not a color. Whenever the hip hop format is mentioned on this board, it is treated with negativity. I know the classic hip hop we are discussing on this thread is very different from the hip hop of today. That's why I took offense to your comments Radio Truth. By the way Salem, I heard "Fight the Power" on KNRJ last night.

I guess you have never seen The Roots, or the Fugees. Did you know that Flavor Flav is a classically trained pianist(sp)? Most of the classic hip hop artists are trained musicians. Again I have said it before and I will say it again, don't downgrade something that you have no clue about. Do some research before get infront of the PC and type some crap.

And another thing Radio Truth(cause you are so full of LIES).....You don't know me homeboy, and you don't know what I have been through in my life. I can define myself by anything I want to. If Chuck D and KRS-One led me to find about my history, then thats great.

Salem, you don't owe that clown any kind of explanation, so don't bother. Anyone who states their OPINION like it's a fact, is clearly not very intelligent.
For the record, I came up bumpin' EPMD, LL Cool J, Digital Underground, DJ Quik, and stuff like that. Do I have street cred now? No, probably not but it's the goofy stuff that I liked back in the day.... unless RADIO TRUTH tells me that it's carp, then I'll have to stop listening because he know what's music and what's not. "THERE IS NO SINGING". That's my favorite. So, can we say that Smooth Jazz isn't really music either, since there's no singing in that?? WHEW!!

I know man. It just bothers me when folk make a generalization about something yet knows nothing about it, and does not have a desire to find about it.

Why is it everytime we post something on this board that's not mainstream, we have to argue and defend ourselves?

.. because RADIO TRUTH is probably Don Imus, lurking on the Dallas board.

Back on track folks: Classic hip-hop, esp. from the golden age(late 80's-early 90's), is good to hear again in rotation :) I grew up listening to KRS-One, Poor Righteous Teachers, De La Soul and PE, I got my education concerning history and social ills from the music. It educated and enlightened, unlike the bling-hop of today.

rap is not crap its form of music for you hate on it you know nothing about rap its not race thing its a respest thing. its good arizona has oldschool hiphop station this what radio been missin a tru oldschool radio station.

I was looking thru my cassettes and I found some old XClan, Paris, Conscious Daughters, N2Deep, Jeru The Damaga, GangStarr, The GURU and Professor Griff. Man those were the days........

A classic hip hop station may give me a reason to listen to a hip hop station again. IMHO, I think new rap is just fad club crap, classic hip hop actually has a MESSAGE. I just hope the imaging is not mostly the gangsta stuff in the mid 90s, but more 80s and early 90s, the golden era of hiphop. It's been AGES since I heard Wu-Tang. I'd throw in some New Jack into the mix as well.
