Classic Hits 104.5? The end of JACK?

Listening to JACK today and they're totally repositioning themselves as 'Classic Hits' 104.5 - plus they've got Bruce doing afternoons... is this something permanent? Are they moving away from the Jack format? What's up?
 
Heard this around 6:45 am.... The are using the old jack voice and a new jack voice seemingly at the sametime. I heard them say: Indy's Classic Hits Station, 104 point 5, Jack FM.
 
Styx, Journey, Eagles, Aerosmith, Boston, Claption, Bowie, Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Free.

With, (and i quote), "Bruce Elscott, your new afternoon guy"...

Interesting. I wonder if Cumulus will continue to pay the rights fees to call it Jack or if they'll phase it out.

They use the Jack moniker but 104.5 FM, WKLU and Q 95 are ALL classic rock stations. Jack is theoretically supposed to have a wide playlist but the Indy Jack has merely been a classic rock station. The closest thing to a classic hits format that Indy has is The Track and they don't do a very good job. The Track's variety is good but there's something missing in the way they present themselves and the music. Classic Hits, not the oldies format that 104.5 used to have, is the way to go.
 
I would say this Jack thing is a work in progress.....there is absolutely no room for 3 Classic Rock stations in Indy.

I'm not familiar with WDRV. When I consider the term, "Classic Hits", I think of the pop side of popular music not the rockier side of it. The songs that WLS played from 1967 to 1986. And as far as "research" goes...just look at the Billboard charts for those years.
 
That is what they do....no contests....very little personality....lots of cold segues....

Paul Simon, ELO, some standard classics....and they even played Unchained Melody (last time I listened)

Sounds like the music selection may be good but personalities are what make radio the personal medium that it is. One can hardly think of WLS without remembering Larry Lujack, Tommy Edwards, John Landecker, Bob Sarott, etc.

I agree 100%. That is just the way they present it. "all about the music" When they signed on they said "no bs, no stupid games, just the best music ever made"

Station does very well....and does have good jocks...they just don't say much.

I, personally, hate all of these formats that are designed to "eliminate" personality....like Jack, Drive, ect.
