Classic Hits 92.9 - WBPM

We have a new radio station in the Hudson Valley and it sounds pretty cool! Moody Blues into Kenny Loggins into Dire Straits. Different. Different is good.

How is yet another station playing "Walk of Life" different? That makes what, six of them in the market?

Re: Classic Hits 92.9 - WBPM, What About WGHQ?

The station is not that bad, it sounded a lot similar to "Jack" on WCBS-FM. Classic Hits 92.9 is not that bad, but it plays a number of 60's, 70's and 80's music in heavy rotation. I guess Pamal did a good job for this new format. I recorded that aircheck at around 12:00 noon, since I set my timer, but it ended around 1:00 PM, because the format was launched at around 1:15 PM. It was too late. I missed recording the aircheck of the format flip. I will post just of the aircheck of the first day of "Classic Hits 92.9" later on the "Aircheck Collectors" board.

WGHQ also gave up the N/T format, because it doesn't get any ratings due to duplicate programming wth the like of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh from WABC. Rush Limbaugh was on WGHQ that afternoon prior to the change. WGHQ is now simulcasting WBNR and WLNA as "The Sound of the Valley". I'm glad that we bring standards back to WGHQ for the first time in 3 years. Pamal did a great job. Kudos to them!

Hey, new to the board. I have tuned in a couple of times since it came on this afternoon. Seems pretty cool. I think they would help themselves with coverage if they increased their power. The station itself comes in good here in Eastern Orange County but allot of interference from 92.7 WRRV makes listening in, especially if you are driving around quite difficult. If there was a way they could get the FCC to increase their wattage they could focus on the southern parts of the Mid-Hudson Valley (Orange/Putnam)

I live in albany and i wish the signal came up this far so i can listen to them as well. This would be a good move for either WTRY or Magic 100.9 to turn to.

I forgot to mention one of the 2 stations i mentioned in the previous post should turn classic hits.

Maybe a good move for WTRY since they are tanking big time all over the place in the ratings. Why would Magic 100.9 need to make a change? They are a strong third place at 7.8 right behind B's drop to 8.0. Magic has held the lid on WTRY as WTRY continues to trend downward.

Look at the other FM stations that are still playing oldies. WZCR's "Cruisin' 93.5" could reach into Kingston and it still continues to interfear WBWZ's "Star 93.3". "Cruisin' 93.5" is an oldies in Hudson where it reaches Catskill. WTRY did a great move for this oldies station. Tom Kent continues to air "Into the 70's", "Hall of Fame Coast to Coast" and "Classic Top 40". Those are the three shows hosted by Tom Kent. It's not going to be on 92.9 anymore because of the flip. That was sad. I hope WTRY still has a stream, but I hope it will streaming Tom Kent. Here is the link:

What's up with the 1 second audio interruptions every few minutes? It's rather annoying. Otherwise the music format is enjoyable so far. ???

The drop outs sound like an issue with an ISDN line. The station sounds pretty cool otherwise. I am looking forward to hearing the format with personalities on Monday. Welcome back Jack Hammer!

Voiceover for Classic Hits 92.9

Does anyone know the voiceover announcer for the new format is? He did the sweepers when he was at WCZX at the time as "Oldies 97.7" as well as on the original WBPM as "Cool 94.3" when Cumulus took over the station back in 2003. Do you know the voiceover guy for the new format on 92.9?

I listened last nite for a while in the car and the mix of tunes sounds good. They are bragging that you won't have much repitition; also saying that the weekend will be commercial free. This station has a shot at doing extremely well ; let's see if they can execute well. There is no excuse for repitition; hope Randy Turnip learned this at sleazy-x.....If Pamal pulls this off, it sure would be a black eye to ***-ulus and cheap channel. in the Immortal words of Bob Dylan:

When u got nothin- you got nothin to lose...... ;D

BPM has no ratings to speak of (like a .5 25-54 in the last book) and no revenue (CC was selling $10 spots) so I think the plan here is right on. A broad based, mass appeal station with a decent morning show, a little marketing and let the HUD/K104 sellers make some $$$.

My opinion: Classic Hits in the Hudson Valley will be around for a while and a top 6 radio station very soon.
