Classic Hits 96.5 WOXL Asheville

I noticed on Thursday morning on my commute to work that 96.5 WOXL has a new image. I called Ken and Tammy and they said that the station has the same format but a new name. They have a new company doing their station id's. Does any one have any feedback?

I heard the new moniker the other day myself. I like the "70's after 7" anyway. There's no station in E tn that
plays that much 70's expect a couple of am's that no one cares about. WOXL is only 25,000 kw but I can hear
it in certain parts of Greene County Tn. Just bought a house on the west side of Greeneville and I can hear
WOXL fairly well at my new place. I listen on a GE Superadio. That thing can hear Pluto. I'm happy that Ken
Ulmer does such a good job on the radio. He used to be on WKPT 19 in Kingsport and wasn't well known then.

THAT'S where I know him from. It's been killing me for over a year! I grew up in the Tri-Cities. I guess all those drops on the head by mommy dearest finally took their affect.
The programming ain't that hot in my opinion, but if it works for them, it doesn't matter.
And yes, I do know what I am talking about thank you.

I gave it a listen on Friday, and I have to say honestly that it's the most poorly-executed and worst-imaged classic hits station I've ever heard. Just my opinion, of course. The imaging just has no cohesion...NOT what you expect from a Classic Hits station. It's definitely not the "same" station with a new name either. The playlist is completely different, more like classic rock with an occasional oldie thrown in. I hope whoever is in charge of the imaging views this ONLY as a make-do until they have time to do a better job. The imaging they have, in my opinion, just ain't gonna cut it. It doesn't make me remember the station, and doesn't leave an impression at all.

There are some good folks there, though. The team has always worked well together, or at least that's the way it sounds. They do a good job connecting with the audience. Let's hope this imaging is just a bump in the road.

The best thing I like about WOXL is Chuck Finley. He was a cool morning man at WKSF in it's CHR days. He
did ok on the country with that cute little Carrie Hunter(loved that accent). Guess Clear Channel couldn't
stand it no longer. Is she still with Clear Channel or somewhere else?

Really strange that the new book came out showing the station went up and at the same time,
they flipped to what sounds like a completely different radio station with the new songs and imaging.
Just don't get that one

The trick was, Carrie Hunter's accent was a fake. I think WOXL hired Chuck away right about the time folks started catching on about the accent. They had a great show together, though. Saga was smart to hire Chuck away.

I thought Chuck Finley left after the Clear Channel invasion and thrown out with the bathwater. I guess bios can be deceiving. Carrie Hunter's bio said she was raised in Australia. Oh well, so much for old news, but she was cute...
