Classic Hits 96.7

Well, it looks like Mapleton is getting back into the game in Chico, for Classic Hits 96.7, they've even brought in a PD from Redding, and he probably has a show too. Any thoughts on the station? San Diego in Exile, have you heard it yet?

I heard it while shopping at the Hostess Outlet store last week. Scratchy signal, but at least they stopped playing the hillbilly station when I buy cheap bread. Back in the car, I tuned it in and their tagline was something like "KHITS, your favorite songs of the 60s/70s/80s". They launched into some geezer rock tune, so I clicked back to Radio Gaga. I clicked back a few times while I was running errands and seemed to only catch 70s rock type songs, though their bumpers hyped some type of disco weekend(snippets of Gloria Gaynor and Lipps Inc). I haven't been driving or had the radio on all weekend (SiriusXM via DISH @home).

Lots of the same commercials as usually featured on the former Point 107.5, including the desperate plea from the Redding Market Manager, begging for Red Bluff-based salespeople who "walk with a purpose, take action, and are uniquely plugged into the Red Bluff business climate". He was advertising for someone to support KQMS, a hillbilly station, and some other station in their "Redding cluster".

I haven't gone scrounging around on the Dial-Global site, but I wonder if they merely swapped their 24.7.365 Hot AC feed on 107.5/107.9 The Point for a 24.7.365 KHITS feed for 96.7. I had no use for the BOLD TALK rightwingers, but as noted elsewhere, I liked having the radio simulcast of the local TV news since I refuse to listen to KPAY.

I personally think that the old conservo-talk format was VERY poorly excecuted. I remember the first time I checked out the station, I heard an I'd about 4 minutes before the top of the hour before the noon news, and after the ID I heard two people talking, and I was pretty confused. It took me a minute to relize I was hearing the last few minutes of a midday soap playing on CBS 12! They didn't even have a board op! Back to the new Classic Hits format, I heard they brought in a PD from Redding, this station looks like it has a lot of promise, because I know Mapleton is good at programming Oldies stations, as they have in Redding and Merced. What is the hillbilly station you're talking about? Do you mean country, like KALF?

Yes, I believe that is one of the stations mentioned by the Redding Market Manager in his on-air commercial. I don't have a clue about any of the northstate country outlets, or for that matter, any country station in the USA. Hillbilly = Country. I loathe it even more than the Rabid Crazy Talk.

heard it. didn't do anything for me. Not a great presentation and not well prgrammed. More of an eclectic mix than that well textured oldies that 102.1 was. But it had to go away to let thunder breate eventually as it aged and allow results to rush into the market before the other flips.

If they blew up ZROCK for it there would have been armed insurection!!!!!!! Don't mess with the ZROCKers. They'll get physical. Hint don't tell em metallica is coming to the chico airport even if it's april fools. They won't get the joke and they'll kick your ass for it. And they did.
