book it. conley is in, dana fox will be in. conley at ridgeway last 2 days. unless they put in keno, hes there for something else. where is ronnie o going? which station is the guess. 92.9 or 94.1. other firings coming. fear and blood in the halls at ridgeway.

If true, congratulations to Conley! Radio jobs are tough to find anywhere, especially in this environment.

Sorry to hear Ridgeway is an unhappy place today. But gosh, can you imagine what it's like at HQ in Pennsylvania? Market cap today drops to $75m. Reports are that the company is suspending 401(k) contributions until the economy recovers, and a wage freeze may be in the offing for 2009.

Tough out there.

It's entirely possible Conley was just delivering comp passes to the buffet at Horseshoe. (Considering the cost to have a courier deliver them you can see where they might send him instead.) Another possibility: the Malco Ridgeway theater is right next door, and perhaps they require two rounds of interviews before they give a "yay" or "nay" on those coveted snack bar jobs.

It seems doubtful he'd try to get back in radio, since two cans and a string should be more than enough signal strength to keep his former listeners happy at the senior center.

Of course, this is all just speculation. We'll have to keep a close eye somewhere on the very bottom fine print of pages 78-96 of the Flyer to know more.

I'm sure everyone here will be crossing their fingers, among other things, for him.

Conley in building meeting with VP of Programming, Pasha, and Jerry Dean behind closed doors.

Flip happening on 94.1

Only question I got is: What happens to Brad? Is he programming again (3rd format is so)?

Will Classic Hits fare any better on 94.1 than they did on 98.1? Having Conley (presumably for mornings) should help, but beyond that, what?

Whaddaya think?

The main problem will be how to convince the listeners that the new format (whatever it is) is going to be there for the long haul.

They can put Steve, Dana and any number of talented folks on the signal but it won't matter if none of the listeners buy into the change.

One way they could convince listeners it would be for the long haul would be to run jingles announcing they were prepaying Steve's medicare premium for a couple of years or so. Plus, that might be just the kind of perk he'd be looking for to give up that overnight floor job down in Tunica.

Wow ... no love for Steve from Mr. Fiddlesticks.

Read the Sean Ross article on Classic Hits -- you'll find it on the main page of this fine web site.

Apparently, what sets Classic Hits apart from the traditional Good Time Oldies format is hardly any R&B or Motown shows up on Classic Hits. If the Entercom folks program this from afar, and ignore Stax, Motown, Southern soul and R&B standards, it will go into the ash heap of failed formats such as Arrow 92.9 and Target 98.1.

Then again, the last four corporate-decreed format changes at Entercom Memphis gave us 94.1 The Buzz, Progressive Talk 680, Snap 94.1 and Country Legends 790.

How are those working out?

Classic hits, remember, also skews a little younger than "Good Time Oldies." The oldies format is generally to be centered around 1964 while classic hits has more of a 70's focus. When I do the occasional classic hits radio show, I usually describe it as, "A few from the 60's and 80's, and a lot of the greatest hits of the 70's."

Oh Lord, that last post was funny! Really. :D

I'm sympathetic that Steve, after the FM100 boot, had to find a way to feed himself, along with Mrs. Conley and any little Conleys.

But I would rather endure Chinese bamboo torture than hand out buffet comps to drunk losers.

You know, it's interesting...

If this rumor is true, it has Entercom staffing up a formerly-unstaffed radio station in the same week they are laying off BUNCHES of people nationwide. 'Never mind losing ~28% of their market value yesterday. Curious timing.

Wonderful. The greatest hits of the 70s and 80s with little or no R&B? What's that, an endless loop of Billy Don't Be A Hero?

staff meeting at noon. steve and karen on 94.1. classic hits. ron and dana on fm 100. going to tunica to collect my winnings.

If you've got this right, we all bow to your greatness, Mr. Elvez.

While you're on a roll, are the belt-tightening stock-hemorrhaging Entercom folks going to pay Steve the six-figure salary he was pulling down on Union Avenue?

Flip on 94 comes at 2pm, I understand.

Seriously, my (almost) 10-year-old daughter is going to be upset. She insists on FM100 en route to St. Mary's every morning.

Gosh, I am sure we all wish Karen the best. She was fun to work with when I was there. Great gal.

This will be the third format (Buzz, Snap & Classic Hits) in four years for 94.1, I think. I can recall a day when Flinn would have been called to task by some on this board for so many flips. Are we giving Entercom a free pass?

K~

from stevie wonders own mouth. he cant keep a secret. first sign of trouble. entercom, watch him.

Hi Gang. Just wanted to drop all a note inviting you to listen to a brand new Memphis /Mid south radio station debuting today at 2p. 94.1 is the signal....and yours truly will be handling the 6a - 10a shift beginning Monday with my little radio pal Karen Perrin. This should be a fun station...plenty of energy, good tunes and a bit irreverent. Check it out today at 2 and, if you would, maybe send this email to a few folks you think might be interested. I'm excited about this new station. I hope you like it! Sincerely, Steve

shoudnt he be keeping his quiet until it happens? ego man. big ego. him and jerry, water and crisco. he hasnt had energy or irreverence since 1989.

There is no way to win. The radio game ended a few years ago. Get out and save yourself. Lakeside will offer assistance to those who want a career with a company which does not offer any retirement benefits. Face it, a 401K match will never return to the halls of Ridgeway. And now that Entercom has made the move, you better believe Citadel and CC will follow suit. Hell, I don't think Citadel currently guarantees a match of any kind, only a 1 time contribution per year based on profit margins.

Let's see....revenue within the market does not support the active rocker, barley supports 1 of the classic rockers and moderately supports the other classic rock. At best, Memphis will only offer about 10 "rock" based shares within the 25-54 demo....so I guess Entercom wants its piece of the 10 shares to split 4 ways...instead of a .8-1.2 with Snap, they plan to double the audience with a 1.8-2.5. WOW! I can smell the money! 401K match will resume in no time!
