Classic Hits Format question

I've determined that Atlanta radio needs more music for the "older" generation. I get all of the demo stuff so let's not rehash that. My question is a bit more basic (hopefully). 97.1 plays classic rock but what if you want to hear the classic pop music of the 60's, 70's and 80's? Is there truly no way anyone in this market can possibly make enough money with it to keep it viable? If so, that is truly a shame. :(

And I have another question--

Please define for me "classic hits" of the '60. In my mind that is anything that was on what we called the "Top 40" stations of 1960-1970: WQXI, WKXI-FM, WYNX, WIIN, WLS, WCFLm WOWO, WABC. Am I missing something or is there a distinction between those playlists and the "Greatest Hits" playlists? I mean, I loved Scott Shannon's stuff (which, I think is called AGO) but the stuff that 106.7 was playing before the flip was terrible (I think that was called AGH).

Explain it to me, please.

Rumors are either 105.7 or one of the Cumulus translators. But nothing will happen on the ATL FM dial until something happens to 105.7.

Your move, CC.

The River is a fooking joke, just nothing else like it to listen to in the ATL, thats why the ratings are up...

I'm hoping CC and not Cumulus. CC does the format much better than Cumulus does. Listen to some of the CC Classic Hits stations and the ones from Cumulus. Cumulus blows when it comes to doing Classic Hits.

Mike, I have just about given up on this coming back. And I really do not care. I listen to all the internet stations available that blow anything these companies could or will do...

Actually, Cumulus has some very good Classic Hits stations, such as WGRR in Cincinnati, WLS-FM in Chicago, and KCMO in Kansas City. Most of the others are in small markets.

The Cumulus stations I've listened to seem to slant more Classic Rock like the River.

I still feel like it would've been WAY more appropriate to put WiLD's spring and summer 2012 format sound on 96.1 rather than starting over with Power, which I'm sort of now beginning to question. Only in ATL could you have a ClearChannel top 40 that lacks a bunch of top 40 hits.

WiLD's most previous former program director should take over for Power. Or does Power already have a PD? :-\ I can only imagine what things will be like once WiLD and Q100 20 flips if Power doesn't shift or add more hits songs soon. At least Q100 is playing what Power lacks and Power is playing a bit of what Q100 lacks. Combined, you can get most of the most basic hits!
