Classic Hits format versus Current Country on the FM side

I would appreciate thoughts/opinions/etc on the issue...
The current country music scene of Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, and Jason Aldean, for example, doesn't play well with a seasoning of Haggard, George Jones (or Strait for that matter) like they used to...the market demos are rising here which adds to it and alot of folks are now at the use the phone to complain stage...
which is good that they take ownership....but bad because I can't see an easy way out of that...

I've always looked at the music as the glue that holds the hour together between benchmarks...
All the elements need to compliment each other and super serve your target...

It isn't about what I like...There's a real credibility problem with trying to mix new country with classics with not enough demos on the young side...by the way, our AM station is a 1Kw 24/7 home brew Classic Country full service with local sports too...The FM is a C1 with a regional signal..
anyway...

I would appreciate thoughts/opinions/etc on the issue...

Current Country (or should I say Urban Country) hits are in reality... at least to my ear... soft rock with a twang, or just pop in Country clothes because the artist has a relationship to Country or Pop-Country. "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift is not Country, sorry... but if it works, knock yourself out.
"19 and Crazy" by Bombshell is a Rock song. It wasn't a huge Country radio hit, possibly because it rocked so much. Listen closely to how much so called Country music Rocks today. So, if looking for some nice seasoning to go with it, you might consider some now Country-friendly Pop-Rock former hits.
"Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley is one biggie that lots of younger people enjoy. Elvis has some Country-cred. "Kentucky Rain" is another good Elvis one with that soft rock with a twang theme. John Denver ("Rocky Mountain High", "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Thank God, I'm A Country Boy"),
Eagles, after all the biggest selling album of all-time is their Greatest Hits, maybe The Beatles ("Act Naturally") a funny, light-hearted sarcastic Buck Owens song. I've often kind of wondered if in some markets, some big Soft Rock hits of the past might now work at Country due to the changing sound of modern (urban) Country music.

While some of today's country is influenced more by classic rock than classic country it could be argued that when Country radio get's too contemporary sounding some country listeners migrate to classic hits. They would rather hear The Eagles than an unfamiliar new country band influenced by them.
