Classic Hits Music Categories

I'm in the early stages of putting on a Classic Hits Station in a small market on the east coast and would appreciate any input on what would be the best way to set up the music categories for 60s, 70s & 80s hits. I've set up CHR, Hot AC & AC formats but not sure of the categories and sub-categories for an oldies formatted station.

Thanks! :)

Sure. You'll want Power and Secondary categories for the following:

Late 66-71
72-76
77-80
80s (81-87) May only need a power category here

Perhaps a spike category for some pre 66 stuff...nothing though that has a "50s" feel to it.

You're balance of eras should be approximately 15% 60s-----70% 70s-------15% 80s

Good luck and have fun

Wow, seeing those years like that is amazing...
Long ago, in the late 70's and early 80's, with four oldies an hour, I pulled (1) '71 or prior, (2) '72-'76, and (1) '77 up... neat...

I feel there is some merrit of categorizing:
R&B/Soul
Rock
Pop/Bubblegum

Of course, it depends on your music scheduling program and how much you put into it.

When listening to classic hits or oldies, there's nothing worse than hearing just ONE genre from that era. Just my .02
