Classic Nickelodeon

Who thinks that we should have a Classic Nickelodeon Channel maybe call it Nick Rewind have shows from it's beginning up until 2000.

We already had it in 2003; it was called The N. It had a few former Nick live action shows. It did zip in the ratings. A bunch of cheap CanCom teencoms and Degrassi added to it, it did much better.

We also had a classic Nick channel called Nick GAS which aired nothing but old game shows. The only people watching were obsessionists and a few tuning in here and there for curiosity value. The N/TeenNick replaced it with 2391 episodes of "Full House" and "One on One" a week and it did much better.

Nobody supported Nicktoons TV when all it did was air old Nicktoons. Nobody does anyway with almost all new content.

The "Classic Nick" idea has been done in so many forms already, and hasn't done well at all. You need some new content on a channel to succeed, and each of these cases prove it.

Each of those cases never had much subs.

I would think it would be a smart move for Nick to use nickatnite as a venue for airing old nick programs. For several reasons.

1. Cheaper to reair program you own, over paying for syndication costs.

2. Carry over. Many kids today who watch nick today would not be so quick to turn off nick, because the shows would still be kids shows that appeal to them.

And if there was strong interest among the subs they had initially (let's face it, not everyone is going to get Oprah Winfrey sub counts at launch), more systems would have added or upgraded them. It didn't happen. And it didn't happen for a good reason.

Nick at Nite gets viewers. Quite a few of them, actually. They have zero reason to jettison a strategy that's working and air...what...You Can't Do That on Television repeats? Maybe dust off Mr. Wizzard. Or that talk show they once ran...I mean, it's all "classic" Nick.

IF they wanted to take Nick to a full 24 hours, dredging up stuff from long ago isn't going to cut it. The reason the kids would stay tuned in is to get more of what they already like--be it SpongeBob, iCarly or whatever.

I could see Nicktoons show more of the 90s Nicktoons. Make it a seperate thing like Nick does with Nick at Nite. Could work well.

...but, of course, CJOH still has no plans to redistribute You Can't Do That on Television, so there would be one huge hole in the schedule...

And they couldn't, seeing as a huge chunk of their archive was gone after the big studio fire in February.

Rugrats (one of my favorites when I was younger) has been airing in the morning the last couple weeks. Last week when the "pre-school shows" were airing 7AM-9AM Rugrats was on 9AM-10AM. This morning it was on at 8:30AM, but it was one of the same episodes they aired last week.

Other classic Nick shows I liked Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, Pete & Pete, Salute Your Shorts (last seen on Nick GAS I think), Nick Arcade (Last Seen on Nick Gas), The original Wild & Crazy Kids (last seen on Nick Gas), and Clarissa Explains it all.

...that was CJOH's news archive. My understanding was that the entertainment programming CJOH stored wasn't damaged, as it was being maintained in a different part of the building...
