Classic Rock 100.7 scraps its morning show

The Boston Herald's article:

Updated Boston25News story:

iHeart loves to combine classic rock and sports. Look for them to make a strong big for play by play to air on this station. Perhaps even the Patriots. They've already done NFL & classic rock in several markets. For example WBIG & Commanders in DC. This deal just happened a couple months ago:
Keep in mind 1) classic Rock and sports talk share male demos and 2) Toucher and Rich were rock guys before becoming successful at sports talk.

"NeanderPaul" Marshall announced that he is leaving Hubbard's KSLX Phoenix
"...for a very special gig". "It's a great station in a great place to live."

Since he's been in Boston previously (WAAF + WBCN), a few commenters to his Facebook page
departure announcement are speculating that a return to Boston could be in the cards.

Fred mentioned today that those that 'put their name on a show' find that things can be tougher, than previously. I think he made his point. It will be interesting to see who can finish a close #2 of the three programs looking for adult male numbers with Sports Hub leading big.

I thought that as well.

Clicking on "on-air" in the menu dropdown on the left, I see Carter, Chuck, Kenny, and Doug Palmieri who, though I rarely listen to the station anymore, I think I may have heard on weekends.
Looks like the website was "fixed" since the last time I looked. Doug does weekends at 'ZLX. He's also the PD at WHJY/Providence and does mornings at Coast 93-3/Providence.

I guess Doug isn't allowed to take any days off, then, since PD is a full-time job at 7 days a week; a morning DJ is a 5 day/week job; and then he does weekend on-air shifts.

FYI They have this thing called VT that allows you to do an entire airshift in about an hour.

I would put huge money on WZLX's entire weekend being voice tracked. WZLX's PD is currently listed as doing nights... 99.8% chance that is also voice tracked. Holidays? Also tracked.

Like it, hate it or really hate it, it's what iHeart does best.

DJs like it because they can focus on what they do, and spend less time waiting for songs to end and babysitting the console.

Plus they don't have to work nights or weekends, and can spend time with their families.

The many, many, many, many DJ's now out of work due to the ability to voice track would strongly disagree with you.

Every modern automation system now allows you to not babysit a board and focus on content and do a live show.

Unless you meant to say big corp. radio ownership likes it because they can pay someone for an hour or 2 of work what they used to pay someone for four or five. Or pay that one person a full day's pay to take care of multiple stations instead of paying multiple people's salaries and benefits.

If doing a live radio show 5-6 days a week for 4-5 hours a day is taking away from time with the family you're in the wrong business.
