Classic Rock battle of the bay of the hd-2s, anybody noticing?

Since the HD is back on the Clear Channel stations, following their antenna move, "Thunder 103.5" is back on the hd-2. "Trippin' 102-5" is on hd-2.

Is this the battle nobody is hearing? Or is there a group of "silent" listeners?

What if the hd-2 of 97.9 swapped with WFLA making the 98Rock part of the hd-2 Classic Rock mix?

What impact would that have? Is this the beginning of a trend?

You know, inquiring minds and all that...

This topic should have some kind of legs.

Yeah...no. It's got legs like Officer Joe Swanson.....

Why should I use a radio when the local content is so little, when my smartphone/iTouch can grab stations from anywhere in the country?

Even the terrestrial radio networks are moving toward satellite. It used to be forbidden from a land-based radio network to disclose they were on Sirus or XM. Hell, now at every opportunity Fox Sports Radio drops in their XM channel.

Now that the apps are out...and apps that can bypass "restricted" (i.e. licensed network content), HD is merely shuffling the ol' deck chairs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Thunder 103-5 HD2 is nothing but a re-transmission of iHeartRadio's "The Classic Rock Channel" with local IDs and sweepers. I just compared the 2 stations and they were playing the same song.

Speaking of app on your phone with clear channel I heartradio and CBS Radio have radio apps I went to Andorid's market app and type in cox radio app and its seem that Cox Radio doesnt have a radio app does anyone knows. For me I dont think Cox Radio doesnt have an App.

TuneIn Radio app has all the Cox stations. Cox doesn't have their own app like CBS and CC do.

It is not unusual for two stations competing against each other to play the same song.

But, since last night, 103.5's hd is off.

If the on again, off again hd-x's, it won't be much of a battle.

(I feel like a junky needing his fix with this.)

At least all of the COX HD 2 channels are produced locally. I really like 102.5-2.

Hope it's not as bad as 97X HD2. Less than 300 songs on shuffle, interspersed with I.D's that refer to an online stream that no longer exists. Of course with HD's limited range and WSUN's weak-ish signal, most of the market can't receive it anyhow.

I check the Tune In Radio App or website and most all of the HD-2 channels are not streaming only the main cox stations are streaming.

The on again, off again of 103.5's hd is on again.

Is it on for good, or is this an ongoing thing?

I think it's funny when Thunder's local imaging is "Classic Rock that Really Rocks" and then "Your Song" from Elton John plays. ...And that's just one example.

Anybody who can relate to the music played on the Classic Rock formats, would not have a problem with Elton John. It is music from a genre. I can not relate to 98Rock in any way shape or form. On top of that, I don't see how the station that started off as the "All Led Zeppelin Station" can play 'Zep with today's "Rock". How does the 20somethings relate to 40 year old songs?

because they are Iconic bands..remember the Led Zeppelin stunt had nothing to do with us becoming Pure Rock. Mull had not even interviewed for the gig yet. We all talked about the station while he was still our consultant with the Research group. ROCK 102 - Pure Rock Louisville was Greg's prototype for 98rock here.
There's more teenagers walking around with Doors, Zeppelin & other classic rock artists than you can shake a stick at. It'll always be that way since a lot of parents expose their kids to it. Let lone walk into hot topic and see many classic rock artist shirts are hanging next to alt/rock bands. Even my 7 years old sons buddies are all about the AC/DC's, Ozzy's, Hendrix's of the world.
Everyones taste changes Jeff. Not a bad thing..some peoples ears stay the course and roll with change others go in a different direction. We just adapt to what we see most of our audience doing and do the best we can.

To answers your other question Jeff...the move was rather tough on our transmitter which pooped the bed a couple of times. We had the HD converted to analog as a backup. Everything should be settled down now.

With regard to the Rock, I guess since I was listening to 970 when my son was growing up in the 90's, he didn't get exposed to the music as he would have. But then again, he's not much of a Country fan, either. There are those of us who feel music died in the 90's. The product was not there. To play new music, there was only so much available.

As 970 is geared mostly North of the Bay for sellable audience, has any thought to putting it on the HD-2 of 106.5. It would fill in the drop outs for the southern end of 97.9's signal and allow for clean listening for those working on both sides of the Bay. Or is the hd not much of a priority, anyway?

What is HD? Is that like Serius? What does it cost? Can you get it in your car?
I for one, would pay to hear more Foreigner!

HD radio is radio equivalent to digital tv with other channels of information piggy backed onto the main signal.
Unlike tv, radio has been able to keep their analogue signal so most people have never experienced hd radio.

Will it last? Time will only tell. It has advantages for colleges and it has its disadvantages in that it is not as reliable of a signal as analogue.

Digital TV was accepted easier because most people were using cable or satellite by the time the government turned off the analogue tv signal.

Both are free over the air services.

That is it in a nutshell. (I gained too much weight to stay in the nutshell.)

How do I get it on my radio?
In a nutshell, you have to have an Hybrid Digital Radio; most car dealers sell and will install an HD radio and I believe Best Buy still sells and installs some HD radios.

If you're talking about an HD radio for the house, it seems as though there are fewer and fewer models to select from; I'm not sure if Radio Shack still sells any; I was in a Best Buy 2 weeks ago and at that time, they did not have any HD table radios or tuners; don't know if they will restock or not. (wasn't able to ask a clerk).

Also on this website, this is a category on HD radio and that can be very informative as well.

eBay seems to be where the biggest selection of hd radios is.

I have made numerous requests with Chrysler by email to upgrade my software-defined factory installed radio to include hd, but each of the emails have come back with a suggestion to contact the dealer even though a followup email has already included my contacting the dealer before the email request was sent.

In the meantime, I have a car kit suctioned-cupped to the windshield and in-line antenna from a company called Visteon. It is a model called "Jump". It has the advantage of having an "aux" input so that you don't have to have one in the installed radio to be able to use an iPod, etc. If you have the home kit, it would have a remote whereas the car kit doesn't.

I also have a JVC model for the car as well. It has a remote. The disadvantage to that is that it is mostly a "scan" radio.
