WKPE down the Cape 104.7....the Rocket... Is a station I enjoy, nice deep mix of all your classic rock favorites. When you are down that way , give them a listen.
______________
It's not the size of the tower.....
It's how you use it.

I like that station as well... but I woudn't give them long. They're currently the Cape's lowest rated stick (excluding rimshot WMVY), and the bids for WKPE/WFCC are due this week. I'd bet that Nassau wouldn't mind a "Wolf" down there.

I haven't heard WKPE since they were a CHR back in the 80s/early 90s...why are they doing so badly with Classic rock? Is it execution of the format, or is it just wrong for the market?

I think the station might be less successful due to the success of Cool 102 and Pixy 103, both of which are usually very strong in the ratings.

Cat Country 98.1 has been doing very well in the ratings quite possibly because they have no local Cape Cod competition. Were Nassau to bring a "Wolf" to Cape Cod, even on the 93.5/101.1 simulcast, they are almost guaranteed success.

Before WKPE went classic rock, and after they were a top 40 station, they were an active rock station called 104.7 the Cape. It was a pretty solid station and when the station would DX its way in where I used to live in RI, I'd listen to that over WAAF and HJY.

The station now is a straight-forward classic rocker, but its success may be hindered because of Cool 102 and Pixy 103, and maybe even 92.7 WMVY. Not being active in Cape Cod radio, I have no idea why. Perhaps a lack of promotion? Who knows.

"The Wolf" is Nassau's brand of country station, which they have so far placed on 4 country stations that they own. Their country station in Portland, ME is "99.9 The Wolf" WTHT.

"Kiss FM" is a popular Clear Channel brand.
