Classic Rock?

Take this with a grain of salt:

Last night one of my buyers told me of a possible change to the Atlanta landscape: Classic Rock. I asked why, of course, as The River sort of fills that format need. She wouldn't tell me which station or group, no matter how many martinis were offered...other than it's not Clear Channel. Which means it could be? Who knows.

Any guesses?

If this were to happen, I would put my money on either 92.9 or 106.7 flipping.

I was tempted to say 99X, but I'm having a tough time picturing Cumulus pairing a Classic Rocker with a bubble gum CHR/Pop station.

Granted, it really doesn't make a good pairing with V103, either, but neither does 92.9's existing format.

Citadel likes Classic Rock...a LOT. I could certainly see 106.7 flipping.

With Free Fm NYC flipping back to K-Rock - WYSP flipping back to rock - Ladies and gentleman, the RETURN OF Z93 ATLANTA!

Willard, Katy, and others are available!!!!

The River is the poorest excuse for Classic Rock that Atlanta has ever had. I hate those things they play with the listeners talking about how Atlanta has never had a station like it. Atlanta has had it- except better- they never heard of Z93 and 96rock? So many great songs are going un-played. Of course a new station would overlap with The River some, but why not give it some competition? You just have to show what makes your station different- it has to rock harder and go deeper. That's what 96rock really failed to do when The River came on board. I'd love to see the format return, but I'd be really surprised to see Classic Rock come back before another AC.

Has anyone noticed Project 9-6-1 has added some different "Classic Rock" songs to its playlist, these include:
Bob Seger- Turn The Page
Bon Jovi- Wanted Dead or Alive
Charlie Daniels Band- The Devil Went Down To Georgia
Cult- She Sells Sanctuary
Def Leppard- Pour Some Sugar on Me
The Guess Who- American Woman
Kiss- Rock and Roll All Nite
Lynyrd Skynyrd- Simple Man
Lynyrd Skynyrd- Sweet Home Alabama
Nazareth- Hair of The Dog
Pink Floyd- Money
Queen- Fat Bottomed Girls
Skid Row- 18 and Life
Whitesnake- Here I Go Again

Willard was one of the best jocks in recent memory. I remember him from the old 96rock days and even Z93...which changed an awful lot during the late 90s early 00s. Would love to see him return to an air shift.

Wow...that makes zero sense. Project is in a state of kicking-ass...why would they ruin it by dropping in songs that obviously don't fit? My money is on one of the Citadel stations -- looks like another round of drinks are in order!

Many of the Classic Rock songs played on The Project since the early days of the station have made sense and fit in well. But some of these choices are a bit surprising. I would have thought more songs from AC/DC, Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Van Halen, or Guns N Roses would have been added before some of these. I'm glad to see Skynyrd but very surprised- didn't some people think they dropped the 96rock name because it had all of that "Lynyrd Skynyrd baggage"? Granted it's only 2 songs (for now).

Keep your ears peeled for Fleetwood Mac & Elton John. It's all downhill from there...

Because Marc Chase thought it would be a great idea.

Anytime an Atlanta format flip is mentioned, 92.9 and 99.7 immediately come to mind. Both stations are at all-time lows and their owners can't be happy (although Susquehanna (now Cumulus) has sat on putting 99X out of its misery for far too long already).

Ha... that is SO true. All those songs were in heavy rotation at 96 when I was there because Chase wanted them. Leave it to him to mess up another good thing.

As far as Fleetwood mac is concerned The River has got all the Mac you could ever want, but Elton John is a different story, oh sorry I liked his music. I dont see how ANYONE could even stomach one more listen of the River.. Its nothing more than a jukebox locked on repeat!!!!

I know, it is actually painful to listen to.

I noticed the other day more older songs being played on Project. The mix listed looks odd.

Dave has been tweaking their playlisty the last couple weeks also. I have heard them mention it and have noticed it myself. The other morning the played Casey Jones fromthe dead inthe 7:00am hour.

It is really amazing, that these once powerhouses, have dropped off the radar basically. Something has got to change dramatically for at least one of them. They are both just AWFUL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> :p :p :p :p

"With Free Fm NYC flipping back to K-Rock - WYSP flipping back to rock - Ladies and gentleman, the RETURN OF Z93 ATLANTA!"

CBS flipped WFNY back to K-Rock and WYSP back to Rock because they were both FM talkers. Dan Mason is taking care of those problems first. If Z93 comes back, it won't be because of those stations.

I just had to run across the building to attack the radio when "American Woman" started playing on 96.1. WTF are they thinking? It just kills the feeling of the station. That song is an overplayed pandering to the self obsessed babyboomer generation and has no place on the otherwise arse-kicking 96.1. Same with the Skynard, Segar etc.
The baby boomer generation will whine and complain when their music isn't played because of their cultural self importance and arrogance. Whining old people should NOT dictate what a station plays.
Another thing about "classic rock". Even the whiney old people really don't want it. They have a mental image of Johnny Fever spinning some cool deep cuts but in reality they want Top 40 hits, look at the River. I bet you could ask a typical River listener what they want and they'll say some Doobie Brothers and some Santana but in actuallity they would only listen to a station that played the same top 40 songs in repetition.
