New slogan scrolling on the RDS display of my car stereo this morning:

KOOL...100-7 FM...WKQL...THE...GREATEST...CLASSIC...TOP 40...HITS...

OK, guys, take out the "Top 40" and what do you have???

Muhahahahahaha! Not only did we take 96.9's old name, we stole their current format!

Could be a sign we that the station is head to expanding to some early 80's hits?? I don't know but that 70's at 7 was nice last night. Hey lets look at the lineup schedule now:

6am-10am: The Arf
10am-3pm: ?????
3pm-7pm: Tom Murphy
7pm-12am: Tom Kent's Hall of Fame Coast to Coast

Now how about we get that 10 to 3 shift filled and we will have a complete radio station. How about that. Okay I would have filled that 10 to 3 shift before that 7 to 12 shift.

Anyways......

So was it Kent's 70's show or the oldies show that ran last night? Or is that just a nightly feature? I didn't listen.

I guess that would make sense coming out of the local 60's at 6.

Which incarnation of 102.9 did 70's at 7? Mix 103?

If Kool gets into 80's, that will make the Elvis and Johnny Mathis tunes sound very awkward. I hope they're not going there for at least a few years, unless they plan to position Sunny at one end and Kool at the other some day.

No it was both.....what they did was that they are doing the live 70's at 7 and then on to Hall of Fame Coast to Coast....it was a full 7pm to 12am show with the request and everything....The 70's at 7 also does request....in my opinion it made KOOL look 50 percent better then it was just last week. Now it is just getting those mid-days filled.

And with the RDS it was about time they changed that reading on it........But I think Classic Top 40 sounds better because if they do dift into the 80's hits I think it will be more on the likes of Journey, Boston and some of the late 70's stuff like Kansas, ELO and even some Styx, and Little River Band. IF they can follow what Q105 in Tampa has done by keeping those 60's hits with those 80 rock hits then it could work and KOOL could have an upperhand to whole Classic Hits deal in Jax if it was marketed right. Heck 96.9 should had done and watch what the number would have done....they would had been number one over night IMO. Later.

1. Don't expect a 10a-3p jock anytime soon. Not going to happen
2. Tom Kent Coast to Coast now on M-Sa 7p-12a.

As for other 70's shows in recent years, an anonymous tipster reminded me of these. I was close.

"70's after 7," Coast 102.9, November 1995-November 1996. Bob Welsh
hosted.

"All Request 70's Saturday Night," Mix 103, April 1997-October 2000.
John Harrell hosted.

I was thinking of the Coast show. I definitely knew about John's show, but failed to mention it.

I haven't heard a Johnny Mathis song on KOOL once and they hardly play any early Elvis. That would be the kiss of death but having Briggs as program director if he still is, is like we've already had sloppy sex and got married. ugh !! Who is the music director there? Hits of the 60's and 70's, classic top 40, from Climax Blues Band Couldn't Get It Right to Rhythm of the Rain .. who is or what is 100.7 .. someone tell me?
