Classic TV Shows On DVD: Volume Sets

I was wondering why they are putting classic TV shows like The Big Valley,The Fugitive,Streets Of San Francisco, and many others into volume sets like they are doing with The Addams Family,Perry Mason,Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea,and Lost In Space(the only season they did in full was the 1st season, but the rest they split into volume sets, like Season 2-Volume 1,and so on).

I have seen both volumes of Perry Mason being sold in some places for $40 each, which means that the 1st season set would cost $80. I just wondered why they are doing this,it doesn't make sense.

Most of the shows you mention are hour shows..to put say..30 episodes of a show like the "Big Valley" in a single-season set would cost more than the same number of half hour shows..More content generally costs more..I've seen the first season of Big Valley for 19.96 recently at Wal-Mart

Also, most older shows had more episodes in a season, something like 39 compared to the 20 to 25 shows per season for most modern shows. An hour long series with 39 episodes per season would probably be more likely to be sold in more than one volume per season.
