Classic TV's worst actors & actresses..

I can't remember which stand up comic it was, but his DeForest Kelley impression consisted of: " Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a good actor"

Everybody on 'Lost In Space' (although Guy Williams was great in 'Zorro').

You have offended me, sir! ;D. Lost in Space was awful, I grant you - Olivier would have been awful reading those lines. But I give kudos to Jonathan Harris for his portrayal of Dr. Zachary Smith for delivering one of the hammiest and over-the-top performances of all time. "Ohhhh, the pain..."

Harris brought a rich portfolio into a rather campy Sci-Fi. Enough can not be said for the talents of Guy Williams and June Lockhart. Just blame the writers. As for the rest of that cast, well, they were just too young. Billy Mummy's precosciousness worked in earlier venues, but didn't connect well with fellow LIS characters. I fell in love with Marta Kristin, but her character never got off the ground. On the other hand, Mark Goddard got off the ground, especially whenever the lid blew off his character's termper.

As for sweetheart Angela Cartwright, well, she was just, Lost In Space.

I'm glad to know that you all think the acting is good on all of the shows that were on before 1965. At least that's the inference I get from all of the posts on this thread.

I don't know how you can say that. All the following were from the 50's:

Jack Webb ( Dragnet)
Henry Morgan (Dragnet)
Jack Larson (The Adventures of Superman)
George Burns (Burns & Allen)

Harry.
1967.
Believe Henry "Harry" Morgan got a workout on another thread. Henry changed his first name to Harry long after starting his film/TV. Re Dragnet, his performance in that series does not qualify as the true measure of his talent. His Col Potter role on M*A*S*H was far more dimensional.

True.

Important to keep the Harry/Henry straight because at the same time, this guy was all over the TV:

Harris actually had a heavy Brooklyn accent, but adapted his "style" of speech to not get pigeonholed in roles.

Lost in Space's budget was slashed during the final season, one reason the show sank like a stone.

Just so you know, Jack Webb made a Dragnet TV movie in 1966. NBC was so pleased that they asked for a new half-hour series as well. The film was held back when the premiere of the series was pushed forward, not airing until 1969. Since then it has surfaced occasionally on cable TV but it is otherwise unavailable. Many fans consider it one of the best Dragnet works and hope that it may someday be released on DVD.
It was based on the case of Harvey Murray Glatman.

I don't know how they are different, but, there you are.

Another vote from me:

The cast of the 1979 version of 'Battlestar Galactica.'

John Colicos, who was a fine actor, was so campy as Baltar.

Richard Hatch- who actually performed better in the 2004 remake of the series as a political terrorist.

Dirk Benedict- Some amusing moments but couldn't hold a candle to Katee Sackoff's version of 'Starbuck.'

Loren Greene- Reminded me of Ben Cartright in space. (Like in Bonanza, Greene never had a change of clothes).

Anne Lockhart- Damn good looking but her role as Lt. Sheba was limited.

Maren Jensen - Who played Athena. Her role virtually disappeared even before the show was cancelled.

4 pages and no mention of Catherine Bach?

Catherine Bach didn't have to act! ;D

She had other...umm...assets. ;D

See also: Donna Douglas, Suzanne Somers, Pamela Anderson, and all the young ladies who played the Bradley sisters on Petticoat Junction.

...Kurt Kaznar's Fitzhugh pretty much filled the same purpose in Land of the Giants, but wasn't a tenth of the ham Harris was on Lost in Space...

I'd be inclined to agree about some of the acting on Battlestar Galactica (Maren Jensen and Richard Hatch, especially). But Lorne Greene was always rock-solid. And John Colicos stole every scene he was in.

The Walton kids (not John Boy)
Dana Plato - Diff'rent Strokes
Jenilee Harrison - Three's Company
Becky and DJ - Roseanne
Glenn Scarpelli - One Day at a Time

I'm a little surprised this thread has gone on for 38 replies without a mention of what I thought would be a rather obvious example:

Jerry Mathers......as "The Beaver".

At least to me, anyway, the Cleaver's DeSoto.....(or was it Plymouth?) was a better actor than Mathers ;D
