A friend of mine, Dan O' Shannon, was gracious enough to send me 5 and 1/2 hours of vintage WEWS-TV 5 Cleveland audio, originally aired Friday, May 24, 1963. Several of the classic Channel 5 programs are represented here..The schedule for what is on the audio:
9AM Telecourse (Western Reserve University)
9:30 Romper Room-Miss Barbara Plummer-She passed away last week
10AM Paige Palmer Show-Cohost Paul Wilcox Ms. Palmer was one of the first people to do exercises on TV-Wilcox was best known for Polka Varieties
10:45 Cleveland TV Classroom
11AM General Hospital (Tape Delay)
11:30 Seven Keys-Jack Narz
Noon News-Paul Wilcox
12:10 Captain Penny Noon Show-Ron Penfound
1PM One O' Clock Club-Dorothy Fuldheim, Bill Gordon
2:30 Open of Jane Wyman Theater (30 seconds)
I've been working on putting audio clips together with appropriate pictures to make a slide show format..I have a few done so far:
The News segment with Mr. Wilcox
Two parts of the Captain Penny Show (Totaling about 30 minutes)
A "recreation" of a brief Quick Draw McGraw promo voiced by Mr. Penfound leading into a "First in Cleveland" station ID..
Here is the Cleveland Classic Media Archive for March 2010, in which all these are available to view. I thought with all the recent talk about Classic TV preservation, These might be of interest..
