Classical Is Back!

The former owner of WTMI, Woody Tanger, has taken that call sign
to his AM classical station in Hartford,CT and it is doubtful he will give
them up. So its not a matter of "doing the right thing". Call sign is
simply not available.

Correction...didn't see the earlier post. Yes, it appears Tanger has returned the
WCCC call sign to his Hartford AM and WTMI is not showing up in the FCC database
for AM or FM stations. ???

According to the Miami Herald it looks like a group of fundies are suing the university to stop the sale and get them to switch back to Christian music.

Why not tune into one of the dozen or so Godcasters that are already here or one of the 70 or so translators they operate? Don't get me started...

The lawsuit will fail. Never heard of any court that forced someone to keep a property
that they wanted to sell. And the FCC has never gotten involved in format changes.
It's called a free market economy. Say Amen !

Let's see here... you've got WAYF and WRMB available down to north Dade, WAFG in Broward and WMKL in Dade... so that pretty much leaves a good chunk of Dade County without a Christian AC station. While it's not exactly my favorite format, I'd say they have a good reason to complain, though there's not much they can do to stop it other than finding the money (without a lawsuit) to buy a signal and start up a new WMCU. Believe it or not, there is a market for it. Without WMCU there to serve it, there's a pretty big hole.

I just noticed its the same music program I hear on WXEL, WQCS, and WGCU.
Anyone know if its the same one that is on WLRN-HD2?

Actually, it rather sounds like it is the same programming on WLRN-HD2. I'll take a closer listen and let you know.

Nope, when I checked it was different programming than WLRN-HD2.

The programming you refer to is Classical 24, programmed out of Minnesota, from American Public Media, which is the new owner of this station. Classical 24 runs overnights on WXEL. It also runs on WLRN-HD2.

The different conclusions might stem from WLRN delaying their feed.
I have noticed that the time of this can be several hours behind the time of that.

WLRN-HD2 is now running an informational program called WLRN Xtra HD
"Alternative News and Talk". :(

I listened to each of the four south Florida FM stations who air Classical 24 and decided that WGCU has the cleanest, purest, least processed audio, WXEL comes in a close second, WKCP suffers from some WMCU equipment or settings, and WQCS is processed like a commercial pop/rock station. Comments? Opinions?

At least WKCP audible for you. In central Broward there are pirates on both adjacents, one of which is so powerful it bleeds into 89.7.

And the pirate's deviation level is unregulated.
They are distorted on their own frequency.

At any rate, WKCP is moving full steam ahead in spite of that silly lawsuit against them. My former colleagues were at their TX site in Princeton last night and WKCP is apparently doing upgrades on their processing and remote control equipment.

Also, sidenote: I'm told the WDNA TX bay down there is an utter trainwreck.

Gr8!
As Thomas Payne would surely have said had he lived in our time,
"the station that station processes least processes best".

That was my salt mine from 11/73 to 11/74, but in a different century; a different millennium. We, the royal plural, finally broke down and ordered a Radiosophy HD-100. It should be here by early next week. Hopefully, 'KCP will be sending out some digital vibes, as WLVE HD-2 is not quite the terrestrial station for me and too many "unregulated" stations operate on either side of WXEL. With all the streaming internet stations out there, a real antenna could not be justified
