In light of the eventual demise of the current WCRB/102.5 in Boston (with Greater Media buying the station), Classical music on FM on the whole took yet another turn for the worse today. Longtime classical music station WGMS/103.5 in Washington was bumped by Bonneville (owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.....The Mormons) today in favor of WTOP's all news format (currently on 1500 and 107.7). The WGMS Classical format was moved to the rimshot suburban (and weaker) signals of 104.1/103.9 in the Maryland suburbs. However, the WGMS format is available for the 5 or 10 people in the Greater DC area on WTOP/103.5's HD2 signal as well.
At least the Classical fans in DC still have some kind of option available to them. Whether such is the case with Boston's Classical listeners, remains to be seen. All indications do not look promising. We'll find out eventually. But based upon Greater Media's track record of maintaining their Classical radio station acquistions, can you say WKLB/ Country 102.5? <P ID="signature">______________
