Clear Channel agrees to encode in Philly

The news just came out in the last few hours.

CC says it has agreed to a 3-year deal with Arbitron to encode it's Philadelphia stations and purchase the ratings info. All of this news came via a CC press release.

I spoke w/Arbitron Sr. VP of Media and Investor Relations Thom Mocarsky, and he said "that Arbitron doesn't comment on the status of negotiations."

More about this tonight on The Radio Racket at 10pm!

Why did I have a feeling that CC would specifically wait until the release of the first book to decide whether or not they want to get on the PPM train?

I guess this is their way of telling the Beasleys, CBS, Jerry Lee et al: "Enjoy this while it lasts."

Not only did C.C. get a look at the survey, but they also saved 25% of Arbitrons annual fee for 2007.
Did anyone notice 4000 more AQH 6+ tune to WOGL than the 12+ AQH listeners? Does that mean more listeners 6+ are riding with parents who listen to WOGL? SIMON SAYS.." WHATS UP"? :p

Oh, hi there.

I wondered whether Clear Channel was waiting to see if there were going to be mega-seismic shifts in the ratings before deciding to dive in. Personally, I believe they suspect the accuracy inherent in this type of audience measurement will show that they have fewer listeners than diary scribblers were giving them credit for. (That's totally a run-on sentence, right?) Of course, I could be completely wrong about that. I guess we won't know for a bit since they were being so bullheaded about signing on.

Another thing I could be wrong about: I think I did hear somewhere that WRTI is encoding. I don't remember whether I heard that from a reliable source though...so here's your grain of salt! ;)
