Clear Channel Announces HD-2 Plans for Charlotte

According to their website http://www.clearchannel.com/Radio/PressRelease.aspx?PressReleaseID=1619 Clear Channel has listed the new HD-2 formats coming to Charlotte at an unknown time. They are:WEND-FM Comedy WIBT-FM All New Hits WKKT-FM Classic Country WLYT-FM Hot AC WRFX-FM Deep Rock Tracks Interesting that CC did not decide to put oldies on one of their HD-2s after killing off Magic 96.1 about a year and a half ago. I was figuring that an oldies channel would be on 102.9. However, Lite's HD-2 is Hot AC. I'm hoping that K-104.7 puts Oldies on their HD-2. Anyone have any information regarding an Oldies HD-2?Not surprising that The Fox has "Deep Rock" or that The Kat has "Classic Country" either.

HMMMMMM Interesting choices... With the Fox having their burned out 400 song library deep tracks will be a perfect fit... I hope they will add those streams to Clear Channels HD internet streams... CC

:-[Yawn, I don't see anything in the list of formats to get excited about. Personally I'd like to see Smooth Jazz and Oldies but that's just my musical taste.Classical might be a nice idea. Radio drama might be a cool idea much like the BBC does.

I wish they would have added Oldies and Smooth Jazz too, but I think as more stations start broadcasting in HD, we'll probably see both the formats return to the area.BTW, does anyone know if CBS Radio has any plans for their stations in the Charlotte area to broadcast in HD? This is a more of a general question regarding HD, but what's the coverage of the HD2 channels in regards to the analog broadcast?

Thanks Clear Channel. Nothing too innovative there.106.5 should have added the more cutting edge alternative or classic alternative like som other Clear Channel stations have. Must've been Jack Daniel's idea.Hopefully CBS give us a more diverse package.

I wouldn't blame Jack Daniel. Most station decisions seem to be made by the consultants. I don't know if that's true in this case. Even back in 1990 the program director at EZ-102.9 was being told what music would be added by the corporate Program Director. I doubt things have changed for the better. As for CBS I saw what they are rolling out in Tampa and if that's an indication well......there was nothing to get excited about. This would be a time to really expariment and have some fun but it looks like the big guys are playing it safe which doesn't make for exciting radio. I predict that it will take a long time for HD Radio to reach critical mass unless there is something really good to listen to.WLYT doing Hot AC on HD2???.....Probably because 107.9 The Link had such great numbers with Hot AC....NOT!
