From what I been reading on boards for other markets,Clear Channel has gotten out the chainsaw & started the job cutting again. Any word if Atlanta market will be effected?

If clusters make budgets, headed are usually spared...otherwise, my brother, the annual blood-letting Christmas ritual doth continue. You see, that Mays family is from a long line of Aztecs and it was sacrifice that gave them great power. Clear Channel Employees -The OTHER WHITE MEAT.

Meeeeerry Christmas!

The cumulative brain power at that place must be lower than GST's ratings/signal. They will continue to fire all of the good on-air staff---the one's with actual ratings. But they will HIRE someone like Calandra Corder (famous for things like PLEASANT-DELL road and traffic around the "JEWISH CHURCHES" and other complete dessimations of the English language who finally got the axe from WSB (at least that's the current rumor). My understanding is that over 75 people attended a huge party/celebration after she got fired... that's how widely hated she is in Atlanta radio circles, but hey.... good enough for Clear Channel!!!!

They need to fire the board ops who can't pot down a horrible sounding cell phone call while their mega talents try to speak over the noise.

Article today says that CC LA is getting affected, there was just a blood bath in Detroit a couple of weeks ago, as well as more in Dallas, and elsewhere. There is a sense that if you are night talent or midday, you will be tracked or syndicated. Who would want to work for these people who offer no support and resources? I dont get it. Satellite and Ipods havent killed radio...Clear channel has.

I could always count on Calandra to let me know when there was a crash on I-85 somewhere between "Jim Carter Blvd. and Indian Trell".

The slaughterfest started here in Wichita at KZCH a couple months back.. leading to only one live DJ at the station, with no shows otherwise(just automation) or syndicated programs.

Now, its more live.. less syndication.. and more programming. We even got the Open House Party back in Wichita, for the first time in about 7 years. Yay!

I'm shocked to hear that cc is firing people. It just can't be true.

It may or may not come as a surprise to know that the CC owner's two sons both graduated from two of the most prestigious business schools in the country. Lowry Mays is CC's Chairman of the Board. His son Mark Mays is CEO and he holds an MBA from Columbia. Mark's brother Randall Mays is President and Chief Financial Officer, and he got his MBA from Harvard. Talk about overachieving technocrats.

I guess we should be impressed, but it's worth noting that both of Mays' sons got their business educations in the age of "downsizing". They were taught that, on the balance ledger, money that's not spent is profit.

Countless CEO's and CFO's used that thinking to justify the epidemic of downsizing we all saw in the 80s and 90s, and it's still going on now to a lesser degree. They can cut their workforce by 25 percent and report to their stockholders that profits went up 25 percent, and they didn't have to spend a dime producing anything.

It's too bad they don't think of the jobs they eliminated in terms of people. A retired pro football coach of some renown in my town once observed that releasing a player was the hardest thing he had to do, because you're not firing the player. You're firing his wife, his children and his entire family.

They all have to bear the financial pain of their breadwinner losing his job. The Mays brothers don't understand that, and worse, they don't care. They'll tell you "it's not personal. It's business." Where do people like that come from? Where do they find them?

Isn't that because they're one in the same? Or, is it that you can't fire a board op when there's no one on the board?

They find people like that in the Mob. Or in the movies. That's a direct quote from Michael Corleone in The Godfather. :D

I'm not...They have been doing this for several years now...I would NOT work for these arrogant and greedy Henry F. Potters of the pre-apocalypse!

Uh, dude. That was sarcasm. There's NOBODY that doesn't expect CC to get rid of people.

Is it true that CC mandated a specific percentage cut back at every location? I am not aware of ANY CC cluster that has NOT cut people. Not always talent--but often.
