Clear Channel at it again...

...blowing out staff at 93.3 like Andy Clark and John Boy Crenshaw. Sad to see some true radio broadcasters forced out... again.

Heard CC was going to do something similar in San Diego. Is this the annual "right before the holiday" cuts? Geez,

Didn't Johnny Boy Crenshaw run Clear Channel Columbus until he was let go? Anyway, Johnny Boy Crenshaw has a account with R-I so maybe he will post here. He has been inactive on R-I for about
four years now, no doubt a very busy man.

JBC out? WHAT I don't believe that... He's been a staple at Clear Channel Columbus for years... One of the "pro's" left in the business in my opinion..

If it is true.. I wonder if this means more PC in Columbus?

JohnBoy's gone? Wow... Just freakin' wow...

Wow, just wow.  How could they let someone as experienced and talented as JbC go?  At least someone with that record of success should land on his feet quickly.

BTW, unless I missed some interim realignment, JbC's cluster-wide duties with CC/Columbus ended a little over a year ago but he remained (highly successful) PD of WCOL.

Also sorry to see Kirsch and Donovan go, along with yet more of the few remaining vestiges of sense of place and heritage.

I wonder if this means a format change is more likely at 106.7?  That could be a good move, especially if it's to Adult Hits.

I'm hearing that WODC goes completely PC, with VT from national CC jocks.

JohnBoy was the WCOL PD. WCOL was #1 in the November PPMs. Don't care for the WCLO format myself, but how can this happen to JohnBoy with a #1 Book?? Decades ago in radio you would hear
of PDs being let go for a string of bad books but oh how times have changed!

Clear Channel is cutting back the fat. The fat 90's as it is. Money talks here folks..nothing else.

If you make more than you should in the market, well you catch the drift.

These cuts didn't have any ties to performance.. It's all about improving the financial numbers for Clear Channel as a whole.

8.2 Billion payment due in 2016. They better start making the financials look better now if they want any shot at refinancing or merger.

I believe also that these cuts are not performance based, however, in the case of WODC for example, CC will use real, live air talent. They will be doing national shows, of course, but they somehow impressed their superiors enough to be the PC air staff.
The paranoia for the remaining employees must be overwhelming. Be diligent, do good work, get good numbers, be a fixture in your community, and that is all meaningless. You stand a chance to be released for NO CAUSE, at any time, when it suits the mothership. RIP local radio.

Words can't describe my utter contempt for Clear Channel and it's annual pre Christmas house cleaning. They've been degrading their on air product for years. To the point where there's very little that's even listenable. I'm surprised they didn't just include Corby and Woody and shut out the lights. Or is that in their plans for next Christmas?

One of the decisions earlier in the year by CC was to dump a buncha locals and go to traffic reporting by people watching monitors in other cities. That eventually led to a great traffic report a week or so ago, during the 8:00 a.m. news on 610: "the ramp to 70-West is closed".

No mention of which side of town, nor from what entrance this ramp was closed, just that the 70-West ramp was closed.

They will likely say it was a glitch, but heck, it could have been from any city having a 70-West entrance ramp in the entire country.

Totally agree on the traffic on TVN. Drive 45 minutes each way every day and they are routinely 20 minutes or more behind what's actually happening and have had many instances where they weren't even talking about major congestion points that aren't normally there. That's worthless to me. By the time I hear it, it's too late to avoid it. I get better info from those big overhead signs. Thanks CC for yet another move to take the "local" out of local radio.

I had a conversation with one of the CC sales slugs who has been in radio sales for under a year and she says to me "it's just what you sign up for when yo play a big boys game..." I wanted to beat the hell out of her but remembered, she's a little easy, 20-something, hot and Joel Riley and Corby's only hope of keeping their job!

I've seen projections where CC needs to increase revenue company wide by at least 4% each of the next 3 years to be able to make the note...many of the "Professionals" CC has hired to do sales have no idea they are part of a throw it up against a wall to see what sticks test...that isn't 4% over the next three years, that is 4% EVERY YEAR...get ready for the ads to hit the airwaves for the next cattle call for sales professionals. :-\

"live air talent"? Highly doubtful. There would be no cost saving whatsoever with that model. I believe they are VT'd as well, with directive to add one break per hour or so to each station they're on with the station's actual call letters. Otherwise, you hear what I heard on 93.3 last weekend, "Dean Martin on your Christmas station!"
