Clear Channel Austin fires entire production staff

Just heard this and I'm not sure of the details, but they apparantly blew out their last two production staff members who were completely over worked with just 2 of them there anyway. I'm guessing spot production will now be handled by regional production guys. That's gonna be real helpful when a sale is based on getting a spot on quickly....

Welcome to radio in the 21st century. Someone needs to shoot this beast, put all the frequencies up for auction and restart the industry.

No, I'm just dreamin', the big money lenders are too far vested.

In time the owners will realize that putting on a better product, doing what the listeners want, and stop depending on a few major advertisers will improve revenues better than gutting staffs.

That sounds fun. Ok you need to be in Austin tomorrow then Houston on Tuesday San Antonio on Wed. Sleep in your car to save money.

It sucks, but unfortunately that's the way things are headed when bean-counters are left with unfettered access to HR employee line items. Clear Channel has an impeccable system set up for Prophet to seamlessly send MP3s and WAV files through their network and they have unrivaled production capabilities on a central mainframe. Local production facilities were living on far-borrowed time, anyway. Most of us know it's completely unnecessary for most talent to actually be in the building anyway if they are equipped remotely and their product is pre-recorded. The bad thing is that companies who are cash-strapped are really milking it and saddling too few people with too much work already. It will be funny to hear a Gatti's Pizza spot possibly mention their "man-CHAW-ka" location, or Leif Johnson Ford Riata Superstore in "MAN-or".
