Clear Channel Bangor PD Leaving

Jeff Peerce the PD of CC Bangor has accepted an ops director job with CC Portsmouth. Word on ths street is that he is getting out ahead of major cost cutings by Good Radio when they take over the stations. I'm pretty sure his old GM Medlling LJ who is now a regional manager for CC in New England helped get him this job.

Your word on the street couldn't be farther from the truth, as to the reason why that is...Jeff Pierce (as he's also known as) is leaving though. Good Luck Jeff

Jeff is the Director of Ops for Bangor, not just a PD, I worked with him for the better part of 10 years, and love him like a brother. Larry didn't get Jeff the job, Jeff got it based on his hard work and experience.

Jeff Pierce is a true professional. I, too, worked with Jeff for several years, and echo DaButler's comments above. Jeff's a VERY smart radio guy, a good friend, and -- might I add -- funny as hell. Clear Channel is smart to wanna hang on to him. Best of luck, Jeff!

Jeff Pierce sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled programming wisdom. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Jeff roundhouse kicked the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn't stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.

If this guy's such a good programmer, why have the Clear Channel Bangor stations' ratings been so bad over the past several YEARS? I mean, I don't know Jeff, or the radio biz, but just as a listener (and advertiser), if you read these posts, all the jocks are professed to be FANTASTIC, so it's not their fault... So SOMEbody must be responsible for the poor showing, mustn't they? Who makes (or made) the programming decisions over there, if not Jeff? And if someone other than Jeff is responsible for the programming decisions, then how can anyone say whether or not he's a good programmer?

HipHop, I don't see where anyone here said he was a great programmer. They said he was the Ops Mgr, and that he was a great ops guy. I don't know him, but from the outside looking in, it doesn't appear that CC leaves too many programming decisions to their local staff. So if the numbers aren't good, it's probably not the local guy's fault.

what cost cutting measures could they take? everything is voicetracked, jocks are on more than one station and the part-time talent is slim to none

Ray Ting's right, Jeff was a great Operations Manager and a great friend to his staff and always went to battle for them (me in particular)

As for ratings success, we've had our ups and downs, but we've also been quite consistent. It's hard in a market like Bangor where The Q and WKIT could shut the transmitters off for a book and they'd still come in number one and two.

How can you have ups and downs AND be consistent?

So what are you saying here? "Can't win, why try?"

i think he's trying to say "it's a race for 3rd place", the only problem with that is there isn't a consistant 3rd place station, even inside clear Channel (a few books back 'TOS was the highest rated CC station in Bangor, and thats not even an in market station!)

Best of luck to Jeff. I had the pleasure of working with him in Bangor for many years.

Not pointing the finger at anyone.. but the CC stations in Bangor (for the most part) are just dismal.
Ratings and revenue are sad.
new ownership just cant do worse.

"It's a race for 3rd?" THAT'S what he's saying? Jesus, I hope his or her bosses don't hear him or her saying that around the office... Not quite the attitude I'd want MY employees fostering, but hey, what do I know? I'm just a used car dealer... But I guess that's the attitude that's made CC Bangor the broadcasting powerhouse that it's been these past few years.

Hip Hop. Please. Read. The departing CC/Bangor guy did NOT say it was a race for third. Somebody else politely hypothesized that.

I'm just curious. Are you the #1 used car dealer in your market?

:-D

I AM reading, Ray, which is why I asked, "That's what he's saying?" Hypothesis or not, that's what it SOUNDS like he's saying... What else COULD he be saying with a comment like that? And as long as we're nitpicking, if YOU would read, you would see that it wasn't the departing CC Bangor guy that made those comments in the first place.

As for my ranking in my industry, no, I'm not number one yet. However, I ALWAYS am striving to be, and I encourage and foster a winning attitude in ALL my employees... I certainly don't have much tolerance for that "We're-number-three-and-there's-nothing-anyone-can-do-about-it" crap.

If things in your life are bad, the way you make them better is NOT by waiting for things to change. YOU get better. YOU change. YOU improve. YOU create your own good fortune. Ask the guy who just got promoted and sent to New Hampshire or wherever...

Have a super day! :)
