Clear Channel Casualties

All Access is reporting another round of cuts today at Clear Channel Clusters nationwide, but doesn't say if anything happened here in Phoenix. Does anyone have any information?

About a week ago this was also discussed on the San Diego board as there were some casualties there. They posted two sources that were supposed to have a running list but I have not seen anything updated since then.

All Access, Radio Insight (at http://radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/79889/clear-channel-cuts-some-more), and FMQB (at http://fmqb.com/article.asp?id=2588499) all have running lists.

I was surprised when I looked at the cuts that Phoenix seemed to be spared (at least for the moment).

Nurse Jeff called the Van Buren offices of Clear Channel I ♥ Radio We ♥ Laying People Off Before Christmas Communications and was unable to speak with any live person. Seems management and office support is now all voice tracked. :p

Someone on the Vegas board said that cluster is CC model

I used to work for a cluster like that (different owner). The goal wasn't to win, just to place in the top 15 so they'd be on the buy.

It's hard to stay motivated when the stated goal is to suck less. Once they got rid of that GM and group head and brought in people who wanted to win, we got better ratings, made more money and it's a much more rewarding place to work.

But there's managers out there who will say with a straight face "we can't all be number one" and truly mean it. When you find one, run away before the mediocrity rots your soul.

Barry Young was out today, again, they had another Barry who was very liberal (by kfyi standards) I wonder if Barry #1 is too expensive???

Barry#1 was on the air the day after the cuts were announced. I doubt that he has been touched. This is starting to be the time of year when a lot of the talk shows have fill-in hosts.

It's the holiday book. Everybody knows that all Christmas all the time will skew the numbers out of whack, so nobody buys the holiday book. Thus you could ask to take the nearly whole book off and probably get it approved.

It's also prime time for radiothons & other special programming that drives certain posters nuts. :)

maybe he went shopping for firearms? Which brings up a point? I wonder if gun shop advertising will start to dry up on talk radio?? Do they need to advertise???

After all the bashing KFYI does of GM, I am surprised that cadlilac dealer still advertises with them.

I've heard Dave Appleford (the Brittish guy) on in afternoon drive, with no mention of him filling in for Kevin Gossett... might Kevin be added to the list?
