Who? Why? Who's running that ship now anyway? Alene Grevey?

CCU is consolidating programming and management nationwide. In the past month, it has consolidated a number of major and midsize markets. For example, the DC Market Manager is now overseeing Baltimore and the DC and Baltimore country stations are now programmied out of DC.

There has also been similar moves in Raleigh, Greensboro and Charlotte.

The best guess is that the company is worried about hitting a major cash crunch in the near future and is doing whatever they can to reduce overhead costs.

I imagine there will be a SC consolidation soon.

Regional Clusters

In my opinion, this is long overdue. In reality, these markets have been run by regional vp's and regional pd's for years with the nominal "General Manager" a mere figurehead running the plays being called from outside the market. Why spend six figures for that when you can hire an adminstrative assistant locally to take their place?

Everyone should go to www.radioandrecords.com and read about CCU's recent announcement. They have publicly announced they are they up for sale or may sell off parts or go private. A big big thing for radio.

It was certainly hard to miss the big announcement but I'm not sure that the restructurings are tied to that announcement.

Putting it on the market make sense as well. Mays either gets to buy it at an attractive price or someone else comes along and buys his shares along with everyone else's at a better price. He'll never say so publicly but it's entirely possible he'd prefer the latter.

I wouldn't be surprised, quite frankly, if CC consolidated both Carolinas altogether!
