Clear Channel - Chicago?

I don't believe that will happen? Why would Emmis exit Chicago? Its not like they are losing money. Who knows we'll see what happens.

Wondering if the news and break very soon? I keep hearing this over and over again, so there must be something to it. Or someone is talking a bunch of smack...

Rumor is Clear Channel is cutting people today. Thoughts...

Maybe ILDJ2009 works for Clear Channel and he will get "gassed" in their latest round of downsizing. That works for me.

WRONG, I'm a cumulus boy....maybe it will be some engineers that are DOWNSIZED. We can always use a contract guy, they could shave a few bucks from the budget that way.A good thought. I love you engineers, I just like pullin your chain, gives you something to rant about.

a point to make, who says I work in Rockford. I could be in Kansas City or Atlanta.

Only way that could happen is if Clear Channel spins off two stations. They're at their limit in Chicago.

Even CBS Radio is at their limit. Also since all the Chicago stations, except for WDRV transmit from the Sears Tower & John Hancock, there's no reason to acquire those stations, when coverage is about the same. If a competitor had a better signal, then that's one thing, but all Chicago (only referring to stations broadcasting from Chicago, including 4 stations licensed to the suburbs, but have their facilities in the city) are Class B 50kw equivalent stations. Stations on the Sears Tower have slightly more coverage to the south & west, while the John Hancock has slightly more coverage to the north. So acquiring WLUP (97.9) & WKQX (101.1) wouldn't make sense. Bonneville already divested WLUP to Emmis for 3 stations in the Phoenix market, which seemed to be a better market for them. I don't see Bonneville expanding in Chicago. If anything, I think Emmis might later try to acquire the remaining 3 stations from Bonneville. There's plenty of other companies that want to enter Chicago. It's just trying to come up with an offer that Emmis & Bonneville won't refuse. CBS & CC make too much money off of their stations that they won't sell, though CC may sell 1690 at a later date, but won't sell their FM stations though.

I don't see CC leaving Chicago...also.

I am sure there are many companies who would love to get into Chicago...but I see Clear Channel divesting their small market properties....like Gallup, New Mexico...before I see them dumping market #3...especially since they have such good signals...and the stations are performing "well".

Maybe the 9 guy could pick em up and dump the trimulcast?

What about Entercom? They just bought some CBS stations and before that, their largest markets are in Boston, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Sacramento and Milwaukee. Maybe they want to get in the Chi.
