Recently here in Ohio, corporate took over some of the CHR's here and is programmed through satellite. Satellite jocks, music, imaging.... does anyone have an idea who runs this? The number to call in? What's this thing called? Also in Albany on their KISS FM
 
Which Ohio CHRs are you referring to?
As for Albany, 102.3 Kiss FM has never done well when compared to the market's heritage CHR Fly 92.3, or the market's Rhythmic Jamz 96.3
 
It's not satellite. You're talking about "Premium Choice" programming. Looks like a lot of CC CHR's are running this on the weekend all over the country. You'll still hear some local jocks as well depending on the station/markey. It's basically glorified voicetracking.
 
Looks like you're right from the looks of Channel 94-5's website! Drake and E are missing. I didn't see either of them on the All Access or FMQB lists of terminated employees though.
 
Hmm.... Drake's twitter also says.... "I'm so confused. Looks like I still have a gig, I think?" I wonder if they're still gonna be around. All I know is they need to improve on the imaging.
 
Noticed that WXKS-FM Boston, WIOQ Philadelphia, WAKS Cleveland, WKST Pittsburgh, amonst others were airing this national feed (or Premium Choice programming) last night after midnight. Also, noticed the same thing on many, many Clear Channel ACs over the weekend. Some aired it just overnight, many for the entire weekend.

The bigger issue I have with this is not that it's voicetracked, but it's also the same music played on all stations, thus effectively eliminating local music programming decisions. This means that artists have to compete at a national level to gain airplay on a large number of radio stations owned by Clear Channel.
 
"Premium Choice" is glorified voicetracking, and it's almost the same as satellite formats minus the magic call drops.  It's Nexgen running WANed voice tracks and music logs from another source.

I believe Kool 108 in the Twin Cities is "Premium Choice" 24/7 now...

BTW, artists already have to compete at a national level just to get Cumulus airplay, and they also own a number of CHR stations.  It's all decided by Jan Jeffries in Atlanta, and they all add the same songs.
 
Jan Jeffries is in love with Rob Thomas..... ::) Cumulous CHRs are way worse than CC.. At least CC still keeps their stations on top of ratings and is still daring on new and rhythmic music.... Cumulous CHRs are all but HOT AC Glorified.... Especially during the day. Cume Less ruined Hot 100 in Myrtle Beach, and Urban-Wynn 106 in Florence SC.
 
Add Q94, Richmond fo the CC CHR list of porgramming this weeked. I had never heard of the people that were on the air and Open House Party was gone on Sunday night !

Eventually all Clear Channel CHR's will run the SAME Premium Choice programming, with the SAME music logs and SAME jocks. That is, if their revenue continues to drop by 22% a quarter. Way to go CC!!! :D

I just want to know if they'll continue to pay out severance checks when they have to file for bankruptcy next year.

By forcing artists to compete nationally, it's an antitrust issue as well as a localism issue.
 
The FCC? Complain? No offense guys but the only ones you can complain to is CC, or by imposing a ban on it. The FCC isnt gonna do anything about it. There are national music television stations, there are national radio music stations (like radio Disney and Way FM), there's satellite radio, myspace, AOL music, etc. Besides, back in the early days, or "Golden Days" of radio in the 20s through the 40s a lot of the stations carried the same NBC or CBS radio programs.
I'm not happy, at all, with all this premium choice crap being force-fed on radio stations, but I also wasnt happy either in the 1990s when a lot of markets didnt have a single CHR/Pop station. That was way worse, imo.
 
I absolutely hate it! They use the same 5 imagers. The same music selection - doesn't fit the market anymore. The jocks have nothing to do with the station and they run calls like the listeners of the premium choice market can call in. Personally, with the right interaction, they could get ratings up wayy higher than doing this local garbage.

The FCC does not care about programming, only if it's spewing 4 letter words. But they might have something to say about the whole localism isssue
 
Here in louisville kiss 98.9 wzkf they now have very little local presence except for a little on the weekends.They have dave and jimmy in the morning and then seacrest and then it is all that premium choice and except for a few hours on the weekend it is not local at all.I have to say these hedge funds that have bought radio have made clear channels stations not worth listening to!!!
 
Whoever came up with the idea to pollute the airwaves with Ryan Snoozefest on 130+ stations (CHR/Pop & Hot AC) nationwide oughtta be slapped!!!!
