Is WXBT trying to skew more Urban AC? WXBT 100.1 The Beat recently added a slow jams show each night, but tonight I turn it on and to my surprise I hear the Keith Sweat hotel! I thought this show was mainly for Urban AC stations. We have over-saturation of "strictly" R&B in this market already. Make that syndicated programming as well. I guess all in all I shouldn't be surprised. It just saddens me how cheap this market sounds now compared to 4-5 years ago. WNOK runs a syndicated talk show each Sunday night as well. But the only problem is during the whole show AND commercials, there is music playing in the background and boy does it sound like a mess! This seems to happen a lot.

I feel the same way that you do. There are way too many urban stations for my likings considering the ethnic makeup of the Columbia market as well as there is way too much syndication especially on the urban stations, but in radio in general and too much voice tracking. It is a very cheap way to do radio and it sounds like it, and that is very sad.
 
I think you are definitely on to something there and I would love to see that cluster sold and would love to see someone locally buy it, but we all know that more than likely will never happen, but would love to see someone take that cluster and run it right for a change.
 
One more note, ever since last night, WXBT has had HORRIBLE audio processing. I was listening to Keith Sweat for a minute tonight and the audio was going in and out and sounded like an alarm clock. I am so ASHAMED of Clear Channel! I thought they had something good when they signed on WXBT back in 2003. They are sabotaging their stations for the pure hell of it I think! WNOK sounds like a total mess too nowadays. The last time WNOK sounded REALLY good was when Toby Knapp was at the helm. He turned WNOK into a fun station with mixes and a fun playlist. Now, Columbia radio is a joke! Why can't someone take on WNOK? Double O would be a good choice IMO. Move all the country programming to 94.3 and make 92.1 top 40 or Rhythmic top 40 as ZOO 92. But that's my wishful thinking. Inner City is no picnic either. I honestly think they should of left The Big DM live and local 24/7 and created an Urban AC "oldies" outlet either on 93.5 or 103.9 for the Steve Harvey and Michael Baisden shows.
