Clear Channel Cross Promotion in NYC

While tuning around tonight, I heard a spot on WWPR 105.1 encouraging listeners to check out the other 4 local Clear Channel stations, which were mentioned by name. Brief descriptions of their formats were also provided.
Is that sort of cross promotion unusual on New York City stations? Does it benefit a radio group such as Clear Channel if listeners turn the dial from one of their stations to others that they own within the market?

It's main focus for those ads is to get iHeartRadio out to the masses. I heard that same ad on KTU and Lite FM so far.

CBS has been know to do that, especially to promote sports events, but also cross promoting music and talk.
