Clear Channel Cuts on Jan. 20th?

Other boards are buzzing about cuts being made at Clear Channel stations nationwide on January 20th. Quoting FMBQ here:

The New York Post reports that CC's new owners will begin a "massive restructuring plan" that aims to cut out up to $400 million in costs.

Sources tell the Post that the restructuring will include layoffs across Clear Channel's radio, outdoor advertising and international divisions as well as cuts to programming budgets and consolidation of back-office operations. The company is also expected to move even further towards a "national programming model," with less local staff at stations.

The Post says that the cutbacks taking place the same day that Barack Obama is sworn in as the President is not a coincidence, as CC management hopes "they can slip in the layoffs while the press is preoccupied with Inauguration Day festivities."

Anybody hear if this will affect Connecticut? I gotta imagine the few locally based DJ's will be disappearing.

Well, they can't cut newspeople, since local news is pretty much a thing of the past with it all coming from Syracuse (from what I recall).

My question is, stations "use to be" licensed "in the public interest" - is this even so anymore? Is Clear Channel going to become the corporate ad-based version of NPR?

I see why people are doing less listening to radio these days!

Yes, it's hard to cut staff when there's nobody left to cut. Clear Channel put radio on life support, and now they're getting ready to pull the plug.

Cuts? More like put it out of it's misery! :)
At least I'm on the fringe of the Z100 signal.

Be careful what you wish for. You may soon be living in the Z100 signal, and not on the fringe.

Make 101.3 and 95.7 one CHR. Using the name KC 101 and firing all KISS djs leaving Connecituct listeners KC 101 now on 95.7 also.

My God that's even worse!!
Besides, this has been hashed out so many times on this board. There will not be a 101.3/95.7 consolidation. They are 2 separate markets and 2 slightly different formats. It just so happens they are both awful.

Video-I thought they DO run it out of a dumpster!
Actually KC had a good book for a change. Not sure what to base it on???? Better music mix, personalities, local community involvement???? Gotta give credit, where credit is due. They should be a top station with a signal like that.
Now if AVZ could just show up in a book.

Care to elaborate on why you think both are aweful and what imrovements you would make?

CC's "Less is More" policy makes Kiss sound like it was produced out of someone's basement. Little to no production, imaging, identification or anything. I miss the days of jingles, great voiceovers, etc. You won't hear that on Kiss.

KC 101 has a serious issue with music, IMHO. As I've mentioned before, why is "Ms Jackson" by Outkast played like a current? It was a mediocre hit like 9 years ago.

With regard to KSS you have no hope for that station. You think the only problem with KC is the music? So if the PD just tweeks the music that should solve the problem?

According to Radioandrecords PD Chaz was part of Cheap Channels bloodbath firing spree today!

Might as well just have one format for each frequency. For example, if CC owns another CHR on 95.7 elsewhere, simulcast it in Connecticut. That will save more money.

I'm talking from a listener's prospective. Clearly, you have issues with WKCI from the past. I'm talking about now.

KC gained over three points 12 + last book and probably did very well in the target demos. How do you explain that?
Not saying just the music. Something changed?????? And they benefited from it.
