Clear Channel Does It Again

Clear Channel has cut another 600 jobs including their entire corporate marketing department...any word on the good people that got cut today?

With the volatile landscape of radio and the continous stress and fear of losing your job, maybe it's time to realize that the party is over and seriously look at a career change. ESPECIALLY if you have a family to support. It is not a matter of if, just a matter of when you will lose your job in radio. If the economy dont get you, technology will.

Who ever thought 10 years that voice tracking would take out half the air staff.

There were a couple of layoffs at WLAN in Lancaster but none reported at the Harrisburg cluster. One person with a local connection who got pink-slipped was Jim Roberts, 9-year midday personality and PD at WOLZ in Ft. Myers Florida. Big Jim did nights at WKBO during its 1970s heyday, racking-up stratospheric numbers, something like a 90 share, on a 250-watt AM station. He went on to have a career of more than 20 years in Boston before moving to Florida. A great guy and a fine air personality. I listened to him occasionally on-line. I sadly add another name to the list of excellent, experienced air personalities with whom I have worked and know personally who have been kicked to the street.

Tim Portzline, chief engineer, was let go in Harrisburg. Tim will land on his feet, though - bright, hard-working, talented - and, with any luck, he will find something outside of this dead industry. Good luck, Tim!
