Clear Channel drops the ball

Howie Carr was broadcasting his show from Springfield on WHYN-AM Friday afternoon instead of his Boston flagship WRKO.

Reelyreal, being on by 6pm when the tornado strikes at 4:30p is really unacceptable. The damage is done and the lives have already been lost.

A live jock could've given frequent warnings, location of the storm, areas hit, what damage it's done already, where to go for shelter, traffic conditions etc. Any jock worth their salt would've have just read the EAS alert verbatum. They would've had the local news TV station on in the studio and gathered info from there as well. The EAS sounds ONCE for a tornado warning and that's it. So if someone doesn't catch it and no new warnings are issued, that's all they'll get. Simply saying that you can rely on the EAS box doesn't work.

Stations are licensed to serve the public / community. It doesn't get any more real than telling the market you serve that a deadly tornado is on the way! Clear Channel didn't do it. Plain and simple. I say solicit the FCC and have them fined.

You know how I found out about the tornado? From WFCR 88.5 FM. I got in my car after I got out of work at 5PM and wanted to check the weather because I heard from a coworker that there was a Tornado Watch. I flipped on my radio. FM 1 as usual was on 102.9 DRC-FM. FM 2 was on 88.5 WFCR as I was listening to Car Talk at 11AM last Saturday on 88.5 WFCR. That when I heard them mention Tornado Warning and started listing towns that may get hit. When they went back to their regular NPR programming. I punched up the AM checked WTIC 1080 and missed their weather report, so I flip down to 560 WHYN and to my dismay I hear Howie Carr. I can't get 580 WTAG down here. So then I flip over to 1030 WBZ out of Boston. That's where I got my non-stop coverage from - WBZ in Boston. Miles and Miles from Springfield. Why am I so obsessed with a tornado in Western Massachusetts? Because I have an aunt who lives in the Feeding Hills section of Agawam and I wanted to know if her area was hit or not.

Disregard, I had a response to this. Ill post it elsewhere.
