Clear Channel fails to keep its word

This morning tuned to 94.9 at 7:30 AM anticipating hearing THE SOUNDS OF FAITH but all by wife and I got was another "bull ride." No explanation, no apology, nothing on the web site. mo one answering the phone. Looks like they kept it on just long enough for all the furor to die down and then went back to doing whatever they please.

That development, or lack thereof, doesn't come as any surprise. After all, this is Clear Channel. Seems like this company only looks out for #1, itself.

... and it's investors, spare me all this high brow crap. Clear Channel is bad blah blah blah. Just close the thread now.

...and you are an investor? Who are you to tell someone to close a thread? Take another swig of that corporate Kool-aid. :-*

WHAT A [EDIT]DISASTER THIS FREQUENCY HAS BECOME-

PLEASE CLEAR CHANNEL GET OUT OF ATLANTA
YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED ATLANTA RADIO, JUST LIKE SHERMAN DID WHEN HE BURNED THIS TOWN TO THE GROUND.

THEIR IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING GOOD YOU HAVE DONE FOR THIS MARKET................

[EDIT-profanity]

I can too attest to the evil empire of Clear Channel and I don't even live in Atlanta. They made the same cuts in Memphis a few months back ..The bloodbath left nearly 30-35 people, some who had been in the market on-air for 15 years or more with solid numbers, OUT. Innocent, hard working, talented individuals with families and expenses, in the dark with absolutely NO advanced notice. Yes it's radio and this routine is nothing new, but you would expect more from a company that owns a majority of properties in the industry. Clear Channel hasn't doesn't anything positive in any market!

Clear Channel

There isn't a market in America where Clear Channel let 35 people go. A number like that in a Memphis would be cripling to day-to-day operations. And, I never hear anybody complain when Cumulus or CBS or Entercom or the others let people go through budget cuts. When NBC or Dell or GM reduces force, where is your indignation?

NOBODY likes to see good people lose their jobs. But, occasionally, that's the way of the world. If it bothers you that much, please find another career.

Not all of the 35 were on air, they ranged from producers to secretaries... however, they DID cut three on air staff at Rock 103, one being a third of the 18 year old Wake Up Crew, and they cut air staff pretty heavily on the urban stations.

That's weird, because i listened to the Sounds of Faith when I was getting ready for church Sunday morning. Not sure what time it started, but it was definitely on.

They may have started late, but it was 7:30 when we turned it on and Cowboy Bob was whailing away in anything but a sacred mood.
But they're playing loose with the time is not unusual, either. I kniow they promised to run SOF to 10 AM, and one Sunday they bailed at 9:37 AM

It was tongue cheek. But you already knew that.

Oh, I guess now you're a mind reader. " Tongue and cheek", how about foot in mouth.

I certainly respect your opinion and you make a good point. However, the Broadcasting industry is a unique business model in that the licensees are supposed to be public trustees. As such they are supposed to perform in the public's best interest, not neccessarily their own.

Are you sure it's not a pre-recorded show? At the station where I work in AL, we run a pre-recorded southern gospel show Sunday mornings...it's scheduled to go until 11, but often times it will end 15-30 minutes early. That's just part of having an automation system...if you didn't fill it with enough music overnight, you're gonna have trouble in the morning.

In Vegas they just took a local night talent off the air who has worked at the same station since 1989 to voicetrack with someone who used to be in the market but left town... just another example.

WHIT979 -
I'm sure it is pre-recorded, but generally it was produced in 30-minute segments, not necessarily contiguous. To fit their "needs," they could easily have dropped a segment or two, or left them off at the other end. Quite a drop from when as PEACH and LITE they ran from 7:00 to noon.

Al Timeter makes a very good point. Public service is a concept and obligation which corperate radio has completely abandoned.
Broadcast coperations are TRUSTEES of a finite international resource....the PUBLIC airwaves! They do not OWN the spectrum....nor is it their "right" to maximize "their" profits at the expense of service to the public.
Radio deregulation was, historically, one of the worst things to happen to the people of the USA. Never (in modern times) have so few(people) controlled so many(People!)
If our system didn't operate via corperate whore-dome then there would be a chance to right the situation. Don't expect things to get better anytime soon!

I listened to Lite FM and Peach radio for years and years. I detest The Bull and turned it off the minute they changed in mid December. What a shame to ruin such a good thing. What happened to all the radio personalities at Lite FM, 94.9? It was also very insulting to change in the middle of the day from Christmas music to country without telling the listening audience it was about to happen!!! Thank goodness there is another station very similar to the previous 94.9 -- and that is 98.5!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed that they are safe from such changes. All of my friends have also now tuned into 98.5. We had absolutely no choice in the matter -- did we!!!!
