Radio talk-show host Jim Lago's big switch on the airwaves has landed in court.
In documents filed Oct. 4, Lago and his new employer, Clear Channel Communications, are suing his former employer, KEYSAM/1440, to stop it from enforcing a non-compete clause in his old contract.
"A conflict has arisen between (Lago) and (KEYS) as to whether the non-compete provisions prohibit Lago from continuing his employment with Clear Channel," according to court documents filed on Lago's behalf.
In a counter suit, KEYS argues that Lago confiscated lists of advertisers and other sensitive information before switching stations, causing it potential financial harm.
Lago had been employed with KEYS since 1996 and signed an employment agreement that expired in 1998. Last month, he left KEYS and took his morning talk show to KKTX-AM/1360, which is owned by Clear Channel.
The case has been assigned to District Judge Rose Vela. No hearings have been set.
