CLEAR CHANNEL FIRINGS NEXT WEEK

It's widely reported that the suits are being summoned to Chi-town next weeks and the flash drives will be handed down dictating severe programming cuts. You see, the debt they'll never pay off had to be re-financed and, in return, the bank wants a lot of operational cuts. This time, programing will be SEVERELY impacted. Who is in trouble locally?

Yep coming into the Christmas Season when CC gives out pink slips! Watch for some of the same crosstown at Dick Broadcasting too. It's their favorite time of the year! Pink slips instead of presents. Hope Santa brings 'em some big ol' pieces of coal! Hohoho!

The Raleigh cluster appears to run pretty tight already.

I don't like to see anybody who is doing good work in radio be fired. But, radio has be leaning itself out for
a decade. If they're smart, full-time people in radio need to a have a back-up plan.

At the turn of the 19th century - the wise blacksmiths learned how to change tires.

Raleigh & Greensboro are BOTH run very lean, but Pittman seems intent on making NATIONAL formats the norm and NOT the exception. The bank will not take NO for an answer and they HAVE TO see cuts. The sights are set directly on programming. We'll see how this shakes out...

What are you, Bob Pittman's secretary? "The Bank" as you say, is Bain Capital, the people who own Clear Channel.
You sound like a TMZ headline writer. No facts.

Question...why are we so snippy? Especially surfdude, man can't you communicate without the arrogance? Be nice dude! Your reputation as a great broadcaster would tell me you should be above this.
These guys are only going by what's happened in the past with such TERRIBLE operators as Clear Channel. I have to agree with them. The only stations I can listen to at all in the Triangle area are your station 102.9 and 94.7 WQDR. They've watered down radio in their group so much that it's like watching paint dry. Geez, forget changing tires, I'd rather cut someone's grass...hey, anybody need a final cut before winter?

It's funny reading about Clear Channel firings this morning. I just talked to someone I Know in a small market who has an on-air/sales gig doing news in the morning and sales in the afternoon in a VERY Small market outside of the Carolinas. He's making $40,000 + a year w/benefits, with a small & local staff, local programming, and business was doing great.

Made me think of these markets that have been destroyed from Corporate radio, I mean honestly is there anything worth listening to in Greensboro or Winston-Salem if you're not tuning in between 6 and 9 am?

Hopefully this will catch back on as Clear Channel eventually will eventually meet its demise and tons of stations will be up for grabs

Didn't mean to come across snippy. but Goatboy's statements were a little sensational. Seems like he's trying to stir things up a bit.

if national formats are CC's future, then
cuts have to come from local, don't they?
1. staff.
2. equipment.
3. maintenance.
given the above future, just how many full-time
GSO or RDU employees would there be? total...all CC stations
in one market or the other. for example, the Triangle:
2 pds, 3 engineers, 4 sales staff, 3 office, 4 on-air.
is this too optimistic for full-time?

If you're a person of faith it would be a good idea to say a quick prayer, there are some really good people in those buildings...

CC is disgusting. I feel so bad for the people working there. This will be a terrible time to get laid off. Of course if I were working there I would be diligently working on Plan B. Hope those employees have a Plan B in their back pocket before it's too late.

At this point its to be expected. If I were ever working at Clear Channel I would always have at least something going on the side, whether it be part-time or some sort of secondary work.

Just look at what they've done to two morning teams in almost a year's time at Rush Radio. Not to mention blowing up Bill Flynn from WMAG.

Unless you're Ryan Secrest or Rush Limbaugh, nobody should be counting on anything but temporary employment from Clear Channel

the rest is behind a paywall, but what else is there to be said?

The New Clear Channel "No Local Staff" Prototype Is Up and Running
Monday, October 24, 2011
By Jerry Del Colliano
The new “No Local Staff” model of a Clear Channel cluster is up and running in some markets and I’ve got a sobering look at one of them and what you can expect to spread across the platform.

Sounds like the dominos are starting to drop. Rod Davis and Jeff Wicker are the only two on-air personalities who have been let go today. A couple office people too.

Sad day.
