Clear Channel Flipping Another Rock Station

Word is - and I'm not disclosing my internal source for their own protection - that CC is flipping KMRQ-FM/Rock 96.7 in Modesto to Spanish come January. What exact type of Spanish? I don't know. Just thought I'd share.

La Preciosa coming soon to 96.7 Modesto?

Since it is Clear Channel I am guessing "La Preciosa" which is on Clear Channel stations in Fresno, Bakersfield and San Jose.Actually when they did that stunt back in March when they switched from Rock 96.7 to New Rock 96.7, they claimed that the Rock era at 96.7 was over and during that week, while they played assorted tunes with the word "ROCK" in it, they also played the song "Mexican Radio" numerous times convincing me that the new sound at 96.7 would be Spanish instead of the New Rock format they chose. What is interesting though is that there is another Modesto Spanish Station next door on the frequency"KTSE-97.1".

If that is correct,

a) It won't surprise me
b) Would probably be a better use of the frequency
c) Leaves the nearest Rockers to be KRXQ/Sac and KRZR/Fresno
d) Would finally put a really underproduced, underpromoted, overly tracked, pathetically programmed rock station out of its misery.

Feel bad for the poor kids in Modesto. They're almost as poorly represented as CC's San Luis Obispo outlet. But then again, that's just my $.02....

That reminds me ...

... since no one had any interest in discussing when Entravision brought "Jose" to Modesto (I posted the press release and there were no replies), is there any opinion on how good or bad it is now that it's been on the air for a little while?<P ID="signature">______________

It is pretty much a Recuerdo and Preciosa clone, but with no jocks. It has a few liners ripped off from KCBS-FM, which repeat about twice an hour.

With Preciosa going in, I expect it to be the typical one-year-per-format that is common to some of these Entravision staitons. The Jose in Albuquerque debuted and proceeded to fall out of the book. It´s 100% syndicated from LA.

If preciosa is as good as all the other markets, you can't fault CC for making the move.

It's official December 27th KMRQ-FM will flip to La Preciosa. PD Jack Paper will stay in-house in his current role of PM Drive on KOSO/B-93 and add APD and Imaging Director stripes for that station as well.
