Clear Channel forms exclusive content deals with pop stars

Clear Channel Radio struck exclusive deals with musical artists Rihanna, Godsmack and Carrie Underwood to provide on-demand content on 900 radio station Web sites nationwide.

Barbados-born R&B recording artist Rihanna and rock band Godsmack selected Clear Channel Radio to debut their upcoming albums before they are released on the market.

Brought to you by Cingular Rihanna fans will be able to listen to 13 tracks off her latest album, "A Girl Like Me," on more than 115 radio station Web sites starting Tuesday. The album will hit stores on April 25.

About 85 of Clear Channel's rock stations will release six tracks from Godsmack's latest album, Godsmack IV, from Tuesday to Sunday. The band's album also debuts on April 25.

Also, American Idol winner Carrie Underwood is joining Clear Channel's in-studio performance series, Stripped.

Starting Tuesday, fans will be able to watch Underwood perform songs off her triple platinum debut album, Some Hearts, including her hit "Jesus Take the Wheel." Her performance will be available on more than 290 radio station Web sites.

Having these artists choose Clear Channel Radio to debut their content exclusively on the company's Web sites demonstrates that Clear Channel is becoming a major player in on-demand programming, company Executive Vice President Evan Harrison says.

Clear Channel's Online Music & Radio unit -- which manages all of the company's radio station sites -- has been working to attract radio listeners to online content.

Earlier this year, the company rolled out a Video on Demand program that features music videos from a slate of record labels, including Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and EMI Music.

Clear Channel Radio is the radio-broadcasting arm of San Antonio-based media company.
