Clear Channel gets the Rockets.

Just read on Facebook that the Rockets and 790 KBME gets the Rockets rights. SportsTalk 790 will air all Rockets games with a number of contests being simulcast on NewsTalk 740 KTRH or SUNNY 99.1 FM.

Maybe they will show Lores the door. Absolutely one of the worst shows I have ever heard. They won't get rid of Berry, he OWNS KTRH. Hmmmm???

I think it's a win-win for The Rockets & KODA because there are a lot of radio stations out there that are making a huge switch by going from A.M. to FM, And the FM stereo sound is pretty much clearer.

Not when your target audience is 30+ women who want to listen to Delilah at night.

They're conceding that most of their audience is watching TV after 7 PM.

Yep, that would be a bad move.

I thought I was the only one thinking this way. Rockets on KODA? I would've thought KKRW for the FM side. Why not put Rockets on KTRH with the Astros? Why alternate them between KBME, KTRH, and KODA?

CBS has a good deal going with KILT-AM & FM simulcasting the Texans, seems to me CC would do the same with the Rockets and 'Stros on KODA and KTRH. You'd be able to hear the Rockets on the new flagships all over SE Texas. KBME, not so much.

Does this open the door for the Astros to move from KTRH to KBME as well? New unis, new league, new flagship? Possible cross promotions between the two franchises? Que sera, que sera. Maybe the thinking is that 790 had better obtain somebody's package soon or be doomed to the travel the brokered time route. This is a "put it in your pipe and smoke it" move by CC if I've ever seen one, directed squarely at CBS and Gow.

Well, look at what happens to A&M football games, which I think are supposed to be on KTRH. With Astros conflicts through August & September, it's anybody's guess where to find Aggie football. On rare occasions it's on KTRH. Sometimes it's on KKRW. Sometimes it's on KODA.

Rotating the stations sucks from the fan's perspective. When you want the game, you want it now, and you don't want to have to work very hard to find it.

Putting the NFL on a FM music station is a no brainer. You will make lots of money, and you're only interrupting regular programming one day a week.

With more games on the NBA and MLB schedules, there's more risk and less reward to go on a FM music station. However, if it's just a handful of overflow games on KODA, it's just an annoyance for both the fans of the station and the fans of the team.

I might have a good feeling The Astros might have some of their games to be carried on KODA, but only on a part-time basis. The last time KODA had sports on the FM dial it was-you guessed it-The Oilers, who happens to be known right now as The Tennessee Titans-Who also happens to be The main rival team of The Houston Texans.

John, if I'm not totally off my rocker, I remember KPRC airing an A&M game or two. I completely get what you're saying. My grievence would be with the decision to air the games on KBME. Certainly doesn't have the signal range of KILT-A from a nighttime perspective. Even 610's daytime signal seems less restricted than KBME's overall . From my experiences, once you get on the southern sides of the city, KBME's strength is pretty dismal.

From the Rockets' perspective, I think I would have held out for a larger signal on the AM side, which of course would mean games would be exclusively KTRH. Maybe that is something CC & Les Alexander will revisit in the future, once the Rockets return to the playoffs and such.

Troy: I believe the Astros have exclusivity on KTRH. As I recall, McLane wouldn't allow CC to broadcast the 'Stros regular season or playoff series on any dial position other than KTRH, including co-owned KBME. KBME does carry the spring games from Kissimmee, but that's it. I have read somewhere that it was written into the agreement when the Astros moved to KTRH. Now that Jim Crane has taken the helm that item might be re-opened for discussion.

and on a personal note, the only people that believe Tennessee is our main rival are those that can't let go of the past. The Titans franchise is nowhere near the caliber of the Texans from the owner on down. Losing the Oilers was one of the best things to ever happen to this city. The Texans have done everything that it takes to build a world class organization and a competitive team that exudes class and hard work. That is a team that every Houstonian can be proud to be represented by in the NFL.

I bet my life savings that the Texans don't go to Rich Stadium, or any other for that matter, and blow a 35 point lead in the final quarter. I see why KODA has shyed away from the sports world these last 20 years if that was the last taste the station had. P-U.

Based on the moves Morey is making, that's going to be a long time.

The Rockets are not negotiating from a position of strength. There's lots of empty seats in Toyota Center and the city has zero excitement over the team.

Speaking of football games, the oilers used to air on KODA. San Antonio dropped Deliah. Austin didn't.
