Clear Channel has brought KHJZ back from the grave.

And one of Hot 95-7's former calls is now a rhythmic AC station based in Hawaii, replacing longtime Top 40 KIKI-FM. But, khjz.com is already been taken, however. Apparently, Smooth Jazz has now been regulated over to HD-2, and on the web as well. Smooth Jazz radio stations are now starting to become a dying breed, and most of these stations have already become either Urban AC or Regional Mexican.

I'm trying to think of a Smooth Jazz station that became regional Mexican and can't.

I'm trying to think of a Smooth Jazz station that became Urban AC and can't, either. Maybe the Oasis in Vegas could be called Urban AC, but that morphed into a pretty odd format that strikes me as an 'only in Vegas' kind of thing. It's like a soft jammin' oldies.

Hot AC, Classic Hits, CHR yes.

Here's what happened to all of the Jazz stations across America that have already been flipped:

KOAS-Las Vegas, WLVE-Miami, & WJJZ-Philadelphia are now Rhythmic AC; WVMV-Detroit is now a Top-40 hit music station; WSJT-Tampa is now an Adult Top-40 station; KOAI-Dallas & WNUA-Chicago now plays Spanish Pop; WQCD-New York is now Triple-A; KKSF-San Francisco is now Classic Hits; KTWV-Los Angeles & WJZZ-Atlanta are now Urban AC.

Only a handful of Smooth Jazz Stations are still on the air: KYOT-Phoenix; KISW-Seattle, & KIFM-San Diego. These stations are independently owned, are not affiliated with neither CBS nor CC.

KYOT is Clear Channel dude. KIFM is Lincoln Financial or whatever it's called now. KISW is Fisher-or whatever that's called now. None "independently" owned per se'. All corporate.

Actually it's KWJZ. KISW is Entercom's rock station.

98.5 was once smooth jazz as KHYS. This is of course "La Raza" now, which may be what you're thinking of.

Give 98.5 back to Port Arthur as jammin oldies and all will be forgiven. ;D

Don't think Liebermann would'nt like it, because They're pretty much into turning every station into a Mexican Station. They're America's 2nd largest Spanish Broadcaster (Behind Univision, of course). The difference: Liebermann's EstrellaTV does'nt show TeleNovelas, and their most popular show is "Jose Luis Sin Censura"-A Hispanic version of The "Jerry Springer" Show.

Personally, I'd rather see 98.5 return to the AC format they tried after 102.9 went espanol. Dave Morales and Elaine Closure meshed extremely well together, even for the short time they were on the air together. I miss butt naked traffic. :'(

anybody know Why cbs still has the KHJZ website up. Are they planning on bringing this back on the air?
Clear Channel's HD version sux in my opinion. I keep hearing the same voice tracks over and over. makes the tsl very short.

KHYS 98.5/103.3 Smooth FM is now KTJM La Raza 98.5/103.3 a regional Mexican station.

Same here! KTJM Houston's Jammin Hits was the best Jammin Oldies formatted station I ever heard!!! 4 decades of great music 90s, 80s, 70s, and 60s.

Prior to KTJM's previous format (Rythymic AC/Oldies), and before it went Mexican-It was a Top 40 station(KISS 98-5), which was much more like Hot 95-7 & 104 KRBE today.
