I would have to agree. Commercials are coming, but I think that with all the choices in format, this would have to be a winner for the listener even with commercials. The downside is that the big boys get even bigger. My understanding is that each analog can carry up to two additional digital signals. I wonder how good it could be for competition when Clearchannel (for example) could have 24 (8 analog/16 digital) stations in the Cincinnati market alone. That's enough to start playing with sub-genres, and underground stuff. Is a true monopoly on the horizon? So while I think the technology is great, it might be time for the FCC to begin to look at ownership limitations before the horse leaves the farm....it has already left the barn.

Adding 2 HD channels to a FM station is beneficial to EVERY station out there! That just triples your potential audience, which is good for everyone! Besides does Clear Channel in Cincinnati own 8 FM stations? No they own 4 FM and 4 AM, so overall that makes 8 total analog signals and 12 Digital channels. AM cannot have 2 HD channels, just one (and that's only during day time). So in the case for CC Columbus, that's 6 analog and 10 digital (16 "stations"), for Saga that's 4 analog and 8 digital (12 "stations"), North American 3 analog and 6 digital (9 "stations"), and CBS 3 analog and 6 digital (9 "stations"). If you enforce the current rules to include digital channels...all of those companies are over! Personally, I can't wait to see what kind of formats will come to all these digital channels here in Columbus. Hopefully someone will bring back an all 80's station again like what Star 107.9 used to be.

Plus any station can add HD channels, not just CC haha... so the playing field remains as is...
