clear channel maine

Any word yet on the sale of the clear channel radio stations in maine? Did the deal with Blueberry or whoever fall apart like the last deal? Is clear channel asking too much money for the stations? I know Augusta better then Bangor. Don Brown and the WABK staff sound great, that stations must make alot of money.

i'm starting to get confused about 'ABK because they are starting to sound like a clone of Star 101 which at times has seemed to go after rimshot Mix 107.9 out of skowhegan (but is sounding hotter these days) which is starting to go after the Moose more and more and sister station 93.5 WCTB is starting to sound like 'TOS with all the Soundgarden/Kenny Wayne Shepard/Pearl Jam/GnR they've been playing lately

Actually, what I've been told is that the Maine deal is completley seperate from the $19 billion dollar deal that's about to flop. As of last week, the Maine deal is still a go. And yes...Augusta is financially healthy while the Bangor group is a disaster. (Bangor hasn't made budget since Clear Channel came into the market). All of the past market managers (and the current one) are incompetent.

Yes, the Maine deal is seperate from the Lee and Bain deal. FYI: While the past and current market managers may be incompetent; 2007 was a record year for Bangor- hitting budgets and double digit growth over prior year.

Thanks for the info Rubiks. Pliff, calling market managers "incompetent" is not fair and rude. Do you know any of the past or present managers personally? Have you ever been a gm or market manager? Did you work with or for any of them? It's a hard job that gets little respect. It has been my experience that most gm’s and mm’s do the best they can with what they are given. I hope everyone who currently works for clear channel maine makes it past the sale, if they ever get sold.

Yes the sale will go through, and no, everyone will not make it through. Unfortunately and as harsh as this may be, the GM's or Market Managers will not be around. Louis and Bruce will both feel that they are more than competent and adequate to oversee those responsibilities with out having to pay the highest salaries in the cluster groups to get it done. My best guess is that for those who this may apply to, they are well aware of it and there will be no surprises.

Joe -
and i heard through the grapevine that it's not just Mr.Vitale involved, but possibly one of your long-time radio compadres, too (think Berry's Mill Rd and that little building between the highway and the swamp). i'm not speaking to fact, but i did catch wind of two known radio names in Maine being involved, one of them Lou.

Chuck...

Do we know anything about format(s)? Having worked for Lou Vitale---during his WBACH Days in Kennebunkport and Scarborough---are we looking at more of the same types of music? Or...(PLEASE GOD)...a format devoted to film scores and soundtracks! :-*

No Hip Hop. It's call a prediction based on a very strong knowledge of how these individuals have operated their radio stations, in Maine, in the past. This is absolutely not "rocket science" or I wouldn't have posted the prediction I posted. It's as simple as that. It also makes a tremendous amount of economic sense if you think about it. This will be a very hands on operation. That is with out question. Therefore, they would need the GM or Market Manager postion, occupied by someone else, to do exactly what?

I was the Business Manager at Bangor CC until I left about seven weeks ago. Yes, 2007 was a great year financially for Bangor. Sales were good and we lowered the cost base significantly. We were able to report a decent profit margin for the 2007 year--much more than had been realized there in previous years.

Although I left at the end of February, 2008 Sales through that time were much lower than we had planned. The uncertainty surrounding the sales of the stations may have been partly responsible. I suppose it would be easy to assign blame elsewhere, but I'll take a pass on doing so. What I will say is that the Bangor market has some dedicated employees who have done a great job in spite of all of the uncertainty there, since CC announced that they would sell Bangor off.

Hi Joe!

This probably sounds a little selfish...but at least YOU'RE A SEMI-WORKING BROADCASTER!

You and I both know former co-workers who had to relinquish radio in favor of keeping themselves healthy & their mortgages paid! ::)
